Yeah, kinda weird to be asking about this lol but I wanted to get other opinions. I haven't cut my hair since late September of this year in preparation for winter (insert Game of Thrones joke here) but I feel like it's getting out of hand. I haven't had hair this long since I was 14, but now that I'm almost 22 I feel I should get a haircut more suited for my age.
My hair isn't very long. If I comb it forward it almost touches my eyebrows, so if I had to compare it to an actual style, it looks more like a mop top (see The Beatles on Google images.)
So does anyone out there have any suggestions on some good haircuts? I don't want it too short, since it's still pretty cold, but I want it to be more managable.
Thanks!

You could get a haircut like mine it's low-maintenance, non-offensive and doesn't get in your eyes.

Low fade
uh, I really don't know anything about hair anymore. I had nipple length hair when I was in high school, and now I get military cuts, but as far as a simple, contemporary haircut, I really have no idea what looks good.
If and when I grow out my hair again, I need to remember to brush it every day and spend money on fancy women's shampoos.

I usually just wear a "fade". Low maintenance, looks clean and professional, and won't get caught in anything, which is important with the work I do.
A bit boring, but whatever. It also helps that any barber with two functioning brain cells can usually do a half decent one.

I had this for military purposes in high school almost 4 years ago, so I tend to stay away from that a bit because it was my hair style 4 years in a row.

Choice is pretty simple for me.
Receded hairline = caeser cut.
No other options that don't look like crap.
I used to have long blonde hair and beard in my teens/ early 20's, sadly not an option anymore

Perhaps you don't go that close, but talk to the barber you get your hair cut at... And another thing. You really should try to find a Barber Shop, not a "salon". There are some fairly significant differences.
But yeah, generally, I'd say ask for hair off the ears, cleaned up around the collar, and a nice clean cut on top. This way, even if you have to comb it to one side, it will look clean and presentable.

Google can provide a nice frame of reference
Look at some pictures of current men's hairstyles and pick out something you think looks good. Men can certainly pull of a variety of lengths these days, unless you need to meet some kind of dress code or regulations for your profession. It's your head so exercise a little command over it. I suppose you could do some variety of buzzing it all the way down per the suggestions in this thread, if that's your sort of thing. However take it from somebody who can't do much but that with his hair, it can feel a bit a stale after a while.
If I had to make a suggestion, it's to start with something a bit less drastic than comes to mind at first. If you go with a small change with regards to style or length you can always just buzz the whole thing off later. If you go with an extreme change the turn around time to try something else gets longer.
EDIT: Also try a forum or site dedicated to hair, men's style or even just a group of people who a bigger incentive to notice men (straight women, gay guys), than a bunch of wargamers.

Actually, yeah you can... .i spend all day on base, and let me tell you, there are some guys with high and tights that should get fades... the high and tight is a terrible, horrible haircut that should be put in the same pile as the Mullet for "men's hair styles that take a special look and attitude to pull off"

CptJake, you know the guys I'm talking about... the ones who take the "high" on the back to mean it should look like a pet rat perched on their heads? Or the ones with the "forehead mustache" thing going on? All I'm saying, is that many people who wear a true high and tight, shouldnt. I mean, the "flat top" look has sorta gone out of style in the military, but you still see it every so often (and for some reason, the flat top crowd usually looks like the meanest CSM in the history of the unit, or the SGM who has been retired for 20 years, but everyone is too afraid to tell him so)

Done that. Since I have really weird hair (really stiff, straight when short, gets wavier and curlier the longer it grows) there are three hairstyles I can pull off (of the ones I've tried): 1- fairly short, slightly longer in the front, and maybe parted. Almost a quiff. That's what my hair is like now. 2-medium length and shaggy, parted. 3- long enough to pull back into a small, Revolutionary war era-esque ponytail. Also, sideburns. At this point it's really wavy. My hair was like this before I trimmed it back to the first style I mentioned.
And yeah, I do all of this myself. It's pretty dang easy and saves me a ton of money. All you need is $20-$40 to buy a decent clipper set, and the patience to learn how. Also, a high tolerance for royally screwing up and ending up with some really bad haircuts. It's all worth it, though. A good haircut goes a long way to improving your appearance, and being able to do your own is a skill every guy should know.

Depending on the girl's one associates with this could produce some interesting results like if you hang around a lot of alternative-looking chicks you could get some weird hairstyle recommendations.
