My son is using the current Tyranids codex and I am using a 3rd edition 2nd codex for Chaos space Marines and the 6th edition rulebook
Yeah I know not ideal but for the time being we are making lemonade with lemons until I can update my codex
Will this cause too many problems or is it possible?

I am a nobody trying to tell anybody about a somebody that can save everybody

It is deffinately possible.

There might have to be some interpretations in the rules and stuff but nothing to major.
I think that if you are just playing casually with your son that is no problem. I think it's a good way to start playing if you don't want to dump a bunch of money on the newest stuff.

If you do decide to go to the local game store you will deffinatly want to pick up the newest versions of the codecies. Remember though don't fully memorize the older codecies if you are planning on getting new ones soon because then it might be harder to remember new rules over the old rules if that makes sense.

Bottom line anything that works for you and whoever your playing in a casual game is good!

There's no way you're going to get a game in at a game store with an older codex but for friendly games its probably okay. If you can get passed all the weird rule update/outdated things.

"Suffering is Faith, Faith is Strength.

Generations have suffered with the same devotion that we can offer but once. Still, our Faith leads us through these dark times like a beacon. It will guide us to triumph over these abominations. Either by breaking them upon us like waves against a limitless, golden peak or by thrusting through them like the spear of the Immortal Emperor Himself." - Cannoness Aoife, Order of the desert rose #Yesallwomen

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Just make sure you laminate your new Chaos Marines codex before reading it, or your tears might damage the pages if you are coming straight from the third edition codex...

You can do what ever you want when you are at home. Don't do this at a friendly pick up game with strangers though.

Me and my son haven't played 40K in a while. But when we do, we have home rules. Basically we are going to be using rules from LotR, I move, you move, I shoot, you shoot, then Assault phase at the end.

So much more fun for us. So what ever is your FUN, do it. Nobody on here can say anything.

Yes hic ups will occur. But guess what. Playing rules out of the BRB has hic ups as well and arguments happens, so no less can happen with what you are doing. At least no arguments should be happening with you and your son.

Just have fun and continue do what you are doing. Nobody else can say no other.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Auticus wrote: Or in summation: its ok to exploit shoddy points because those are rules and gamers exist to find rules loopholes (they are still "legal"), but if the same force can be composed without structure, it emotionally feels "wrong".
