So, I'm looking at selling my Necron army, which is only about 25% painted. I was wondering if most people would prefer to buy/or sell a fully painted army verus a unpainted army?

thoughts?

Personally I would be painting it myself. It also depends on the level of the paintjob. If it is very nicely painted then it may be easier to sell it all painted.

Can you post a picture of what's painted, and give us an idea of unit loadout for what's not?

I agree with Uncool. When I look for trades and used items I generally see painted stuff as more of a detriment. Just means I need to strip it down first... one more step. However, if it's nicely done you might find it easier to sell. If youre planning to break it down into smaller trades as opposed to selling it off as a lot i wouldnt bother at all. Just my 2 cents.

Unless you have amazing painting skills you are diminishing the resale value. Ditto if its assembled already.

Well magnetized models can sell for more as well, but from what I heard that isn't easy for Necrons. As for painting, it really comes down to your skill. The better you paint the more likely you can sell it painted, in some cases you can even make money. But normally unpainted and/or unbuilt will sell faster

Spending thousands worth of working hours and hundreds for paints and stuff, just to sell the models below retail doesn't sound like a good idea.

Agreed. Personally, I'd be more interested in unpainted models (would strip to repaint, myself) - even better if they're unassembled, as well (I'd even prefer to have full control of prepping the parts).

People specifically looking to buy painted armies already have quite a range of offers to choose from - unless you approached this as a "for sale" army from the start, maximizing your results vs. time spent, you'll likely have to sell yourself quite short to get anyone to bite.

I might even break down the army, selling the unpainted models separately from the painted units. If any but the best paintjobs end up depreciating the models' value, you may see some spillover in the perceived value of the rest of the lot. I've seen it in the reverse case, at least - unpainted models (even models still on the sprue) don't seem to do much to add to the value of mostly painted lots, even if they'd sell for a decent price on their own.
