So I finally got around to buying Typhus for my Nurgle CSM army, but I want to convert it to make it stand out from everyone else's model, as he's a very popular choice among CSM players. My fluff is that the army was previously part of an Iron Warriors warband, but an ex-apothecary, specialized in making bio-weapons for the warband's style of siege warfare, devoted himself to Nurgle and received formidable powers to became a powerful champion of chaos. He led a rebellion with many of his followers to overthrow the warband and to become the Rusted Legion.

I have some ideas based around my fluff, but I have no idea how to go about doing them without butchering an otherwise awesome model.

Here's what I got:

-I want to make him helmetless. The idea that I have in my head is a fat man with a sinister smile, covered in warts. Unfortunately, I have no idea if there are any heads out there that fit this description, and I feel if I try and greenstuff it, it'll come out looking like a mess. Any ideas?

-I'm not a big fan of the hive/bone tube thingies along Typhus' back, as I don't think they fit the whole "ex-Iron Warriors" theme.I think they would look much cooler as smokestacks or something like that. Any suggestions as to what I could use to make these?

-I want to swap out his scythe for something that shows his origins as an Iron Warriors member, and I was thinking of either a hammer or a ball and chain.

I think the hammer would be easier, as it would just be cutting off the top of the scythe and replacing it with the hammer head. Although, I don't know of any plastic hammerheads that would look great, as the thunder hammers look a bit small compared to Typhus' massive weapon.

The ball and chain would be a bit harder, but I already have the Ork Trukk wrecking ball bit that I could use in making it. However, it appears that Typhus' hands are holding a solid stick and it would be difficult to make him look like he's holding a chain... I have no idea how to approach converting his hands in this case.

Any suggestions or ideas would be fantastic, even if they're completely new ideas! Thanks!

I know you've already bought your Typhus model, but how about one of these guys?

Hitech miniatures may also have something you can use. I have a box of their Terrorizers to use as Obliterators. Wonderful models.

Firstly great idea and concept!

The idea of an Iron Warriors warband going all nuts and turning to Nurgle I would say would be unlikely in the fluff given their whole disdain for chaos thing, but there are thousands of them in the legion, there must be some of them at least who have started worshipping one of the chaos powers!

As for the conversion, I would consider:

For his head, how about the one from Festus the Leechlord in fantasy? He is a jolly fat fellow from what I remember.

Not sure on the smokestacks but I guess you could use the power plant from the forge/mauler fiend? They might be a bit big though.

For his weapon, have you considered the hammers from the ogre kingdoms ironguts in fantasy? They have some meaty looking stone hammers in there (I know, I collect them too!).

Not sure on the ball and chain. The only thing I can think of would be to get the wrecking ball from an ork trukk and buy some chain from somewhere.

There was a modelling firm who made plastic lengths of chain but I can't remember their name for the life of me!

Hope my suggestions have helped, put some pics up when he is done!

Oh my god those models are amazing. Why haven't I heard of these before?!

I'm especially loving the Demon Lord, thanks for the suggestion!

I dunno about Festus, the head seems a bit too much like a monster rather than a marine head, but kind of the idea I was going for though. However, those Ironguts hammers look exactly like what I was picturing in my mind, thanks!

I don't know if you could just get one part, but a mutilater head would be sweet!

If you think the ball and chain will be problematic, you can achieve a similar effect from a flail.
That way Typhus can still look like he's holding a solid shaft, but you get the cool and Nurgly chain thing going on too.
