I think allowing for squadrons of Transports would be good. There is already a similar rule for Tau Drones and Piranha Squadrons that force all the drone to disembark at the same time.

Yeah because most transports are dedicated and take up no force org slots, putting them in squadrons is actually a negative since shots and glancing or pens transfer over. If you get shot at by a wave serpent blowing its shield and getting 7 shield shots 4 scatter laser and 3 shuriken cannon shots that are all more then likely to be all hits with all those possible re rolls. On an AV 11 rhino you can get a squad of 3 of them easily wrecked or if you pen and explode much easier.
Only thing I can see being benefited is drop pods if the drop pod assault rule counted as a squad or unit instead of per model.

I could see this being of use if you were allowed to split a unit between several transports, such as a unit of 30 Ork boyz split between three Trukks or something? Is that the intent?

I don't know if that's intent but it sounds good I didn't think of that but then it adds complications so what if one vehicle explodes or immobilized or wrecks then all of them have to come out to be within coherency.

The Valkyrie and Vendetta squadrons from Codex: Imperial Guard would like to have a word with you.
I can't recall for sure if there were others previously, but there have been transport squadrons in the game since at least 2008 when the current IG Codex hit. They don't require any exceptional rules to be used - you simply follow the normal Transport rules (i.e. one unit per transport, plus attached characters) and there are no problems with multiple transports in a squadron.
