I'm building a SM battle company and have everything sorted except for command squad. What would be the best way to equip them?

I've decided to set the squad up with a company banner, company champion, and an apothecary. The last two guys are being modelled as low level chaplain and techmarine respectively. I've given the captain a power weapon and combi-melta already. I'm looking at giving the squad power weapons but can't decide what guns to go with. Do I give them combi-weapons? If so, what type? Or do I load them up with assault weapons (plas/melta)? Or is there a different way I should go?

About the only thing I won't do is load them up with grav guns or put them on bikes. Otherwise, I'm very open to suggestions.

You can always magnetize, or just swap models out for others when you want to.

For your display configuration, I'd go with a jack of all trades load out. Particularly since that mirrors your captain's war gear.

Techmarines should be shooty, so I'd give him some kind of melta. Either combi, or a full one. This will give the squad two melta blasts when you need it, one with the captain's BS. So when you have to shoot at a tank, the odds of it going away make it worth shooting the squad at it. If you want to give him a CC weapon in addition to the gun, go with either a power axe, or work up a partial servo arm as a counts-as power fist.

You chaplain in training should be a CC monster. I'd go with bolt pistol and power maul, because chaplain.

It depends on the HQ they're going with. I usually take an Apothacary and 4 Plasma Guns. That's a lot of plasma shooting, with FNP to cut risk.

Refresh my memory... Apothecaries can only have bolt pistol and chainsword or just the bolt pistol (the Reductor now counting as a chainsword)?

He keeps his BP/chainsword. Adds a narthecam.

As to wether or not he can have other upgrades is up in the air. I think it's been debated over in YMDC a few times.

My command squads come in a few varieties. On foot it's 5 flamers, 4 flamers + apothecary, 4 plasma guns + apothecary and my apoc squad is 4 melta guns+4storm shields+apothecary. And when they're on bikes they only come 1 way 4 grav+apothecary.

I personally vote for magnetization as you can switch between a more focused game play load out and a cooler looking display type load out.

Mine are on bikes with gravs.

But on foot, or possibly dropped from a pod, and depending on the rest of the list, some ratio of melta and or plasma would be good.

I normally dont give em the banners but for the apoc formation it might be good to give em one.
