Yesterday while playing a game i was involved in a challenge with my chaos lord using the black mace. After the guy took his toughness test. I told him it was within 3 inches of the bearer of the sword he said that if you are in a challenge this doesnt count and his regualr troops didnt need to take the test despite the fact hey where within 3 inches. is he right or wrong?

The Black Mace has nothing to do with B2B contact, and simply measures a distance. Challenges affect B2B, but do not change distances--as such, ALL models need to take the T test.

dark angels i think he was quite adamant he was right because he was losing i won the game by one wound i also managed a crticial charge of 9 inches whichn he said was still out. He managed that the blind rule would also only be used for the challnge i kind off agree with that i think he was desperate not to those which eh did haha.

Other models or their special rules etc in some cases can't affect whats going on in a Duel.

But if the models in a Duel has a power/rule/ability that affects others models around them, it still work.

or else next time try to force his Apoticharies into duels, and like this his unit wouldn't benefit from it, and we will see if he still agree with that.

A good proff is that Kharn still hits his buddy's on 1's, even in duel, and that a Lord still grant fearless to his unit even in Duel, there is much more occurence of rules functioning this way then the other way.

Ya and remember the toughness test is rolled after the final consolidation so they actually move closer to die. Yes your friend was wrong.

As pointed out the 3" rule is about models within 3" nothing to do with B2B. In future ask him why and get him to show rules. As for the charge distance it is good practice to measure and get agreement on distance before rolling any dice. Because if you're 8.99" away its difficult to measure to that difficulty and if you roll that 9 your opponent will most likely think you are 9.001" away. Get the agreement before dice are rolled and he'll much more easily agree that you need a 9 and then can't argue when you roll it.
