I have no idea if Gamezone's 25th anniversary HeroQuest project is dead or not.... I'm going to assume its dead. But I'm guessing I'm not the only person who now has a rekindled desire for something HeroQuest-like.

Two things:

- Does anyone know if another, established game/mini company was inspired by the short lived, but successful HQ25 KS campaign and might now be planning their own HQ clone? Or on that note, do you think there is a company that would be receptive to gamers petitioning them to make a fun HQ clone? I think there are some companies out there that could do a much better job than Gamezone.

- Can anyone suggest any fun existing HQ clones?

Dwarf King's Hold by Mantic is a lot of fun. The tiles are a bit thin, and the minis are just the basic mantic ones, but the rules are really awesome and the scenarios are a lot of fun to play through.

They'll be kickstarting a new version of it (closer to heroquest with a small selection of heroes vs. a ton of monsters) in about a year's time with hard plastic modular dungeon tile sprues. I'm really looking forward to that.

As for alternatives that are currently out there I've heard Descent is pretty good, and there's Super Dungeon Explore if you want a more casual dungeon crawler.

Shadows of Brimstone, when it comes out will have a similar dungeon-crawly-explorery vibe even if it is weird western in setting. I own pretty much everything else Flying Frog Productions has made and thoroughly enjoy almost all of it, so I have great hopes for SoB.

For what it's worth, GZ's project is not dead. It may get struck down again, but it's going to be relaunched today on crowdfunding site Lanzanos.

Myth (which has been pushed back by several months) is also a game in this vein.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll have to watch for that Mantic game. Sounds like it could be a good one.

Myth - yah, I regretfully missed the KS for this one. It looks like it will be great. Think the regular boxed set will be worth it without the extras?

HQ25 - I got the email pointing me to the new crowd funding site. I feel more apprehensive about it this time around so I might watch how the campaign goes. Possible legal issues aside, I'm worried that the way things have been communicated/displayed and if that is a sign that the quality of the gameplay/product might be lacking. Is anyone else backing this new campaign?

If you just want fast fun dungeon crawling, WOTC's D&D boardgames are actually loads of fun.
