Space Marine Scout with Sniper Rifle

Basically the subject covers it. Is a space marine all scout army ( not including heavy supports) a viable option for the new 6th edition rules?

Unfortnatly, telion is still a lousy upgrade and did not turn into an HQ choice (seriusly? he is more deserving of it then darkstrider!)
So you are stuck with at least 1 power-armored or higher guy, and very little ways to make your HQ have the same deployment shenanigans the scouts have.

Sure, you can be RG with shriek, but RG is horrible for scouts-they already HAVE most of the benefits.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

All Scout army can be pretty awesome if you use the right CTs.

Personally I'd go with a Librarian to accompany them and leave him with a backfield sniper squad or the whirlwinds. If you go with Mantis Warriors, you can take Ahazra and just say that his Mirage power let him get forward with the scouts.

Yeah, it would depend a lot on your chapter tactics, and what you bring in to support them.

I like to say I have two armies: Necrons, and Imperium.....

The heck guys....Chaplin???? That is what they do.

White scars bike scouts with Chaplin and troops for heavy weapons and melta stuff.

Scout armies are a lot of fun.

Mmmmm.... no. My CSMs have eaten a couple all scout armies, I don't see the value.

Admittedly, it was not with the new Codex, but it was like everything worked against them. My rhinos were not blowing up, my bikers were making multiple charges, my heldrakes / noise marines were doing maximum wounds every turn, my obliterators were shooting everything up with the small guns.

I mean, I would play an all scout army, and I would expect it to do better with the new Codex, but there was something missing that made those guys easy to destroy.

Techsoldaten...when you use the word 'Heldrakes' and destorying scout armies with them....what would you expect? Heldrakes in general wreck house regardless of their target...

Scout armies are meant to be played with a fun hearted game in mind....not a let me bring my most competive models to the table and see if my 4+ armour save gets me far! I would love to play an all scout army...heck I plan on buying a full scout bike unit. You get 9 scout bikers for around 120pts if I remember correctly. Just sounds fun to me

Scout armies can be used and they can be fun, but they are not competitive. They are viable for casual games though.

I don't get the noncompetative thing....I think it has more to do with the lack of models in the gw range.

For two points more then a firewarrior you get +1 S, T, WS, and leadership. And you get scout with an option for really cheap open topped fast transport skimmers.

You can take a ton of weapons load outs, take bikes with a captain, and for a small point bump give them stealth and/or two close combat weapons.

They are a hell of a unit but when people look at then compared to normal marines they take the bigger and less $$$$ models.

My two cents.

A Firewarrior is a poor comparison, as it has a supperior weapon in terms of strength and range, and can be supported to be more accurate. The land speeder storm can also only take a 5 man squad as well.

I agree on the cost point, though. They are also not very dynamic models.

When looking at a tac marine, for a more reasonable comparison, for 3 more points, you get a better save, +1 BS & WS, a larger selection of weapon upgrades, and more durable transport options, at the cost of scout, and the option of camo cloaks or sniper rifles. I'd prefer the tac marine, but that's just me.

But, a scout army is playable. It would just rely on cover a lot more than a conventional marine list, I feel. All in all, go for it.

you would probably want to put your HQ on a bike and have him lead a squad of scout bikers. other than that, my advice would be to use land speeders and limit yourself to one tank (definitly not a LR) in the army. ironically, scouts were actoully deadlier in 5ed becuse of hellfire shell bolters.

The advantage of a scout army is that you have several cheap troop choices that can hold objectives. This leaves you plenty of points to invest in fast attack and heavy support.

The scouts will drop fast though, so you need to make the rest of the army knock your opponent flat on their ass.

A scout army supported by an Armored Battlegroup for Leman Russ allies, HQ Master of the Forge, Lord of War Warhound or Reaver titan and you've got yourself a cute little Mechanicus force.

I run a mostly scout force, and have since 5th.

It works well. 40 scouts, half sniper, with TFC and ironclad dreads and such.

I know a guy who thought it would work. He's a very good player too, and when I saw his list, it looked pretty intimidating, but he took it to a tournament and it went tits up.

There's a lot of things it straight-up doesn't have any answers to, and a lot of armies beyond those that will just blow it off the table.
