The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

And I was just thinking how this forum needed a Sherlock thread...
That minisode was very well done, I think, subtle enough but also intriguing. Certainly has piqued my interest, not that that is much of a task when it comes to Sherlock.
'The one person he thought didn't matter was the one that mattered the most'. Evidently not Watson, Lestrade or Hudson as Moriarty went after all of those, which hints at it being Molly, which suggests she had something to do with how he survived. It was hinted at in the last series, but this may confirm it.
So, 7 days to go, 6 episodes on DVD... I feel a rewatching coming on...
I think it was Anderson (the forensic guy who seemed to hate Sherlock in S1&2), but he had a beard. It seems this is the season of the facial hair, with that and John's moustache in the trailer.

No idea. I imagine it will become clear in the series. Sherlock's 'death' obviously hit everyone very hard, and if anyone could cheat death it would be him, so they all seem to be holding out hope he'll come back.
I'm rather pissed that BBC America isn't getting Sherlock until sometime after my schedule runs out of shows. On the first, we "get" a Tudors marathon (not that tudors is a bad show, it'll just have to be heavily sensored, and I'd rather get Sherlock)
If it's any help, the dvd comes out over here on the 27th January I think, so you might be able to get that stateside sooner than the series is shown. Depends on how much of a delay there is.

I fething hate you Brits. Here in the US we've got another 19 days 'till the first episode of series 3 airs on PBS. I think the BBC is trying to get back at us colonial scallywags for revolting.

~Tim?
Just jump on BBC One on the computer. It's playing right now.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I don't shave for Sherlock Holmes...

Assuming this is now the general Sherlock thread (maybe we need a title change/spoiler warnings?), my thoughts on the episode:
In terms of writing and production, it continued the trend of being great. The excellent humour and wit was still there, the characters were all well written, and the fairly unique directing remained effective. It did take a while to get going, but there was plenty of good writing even before the 'main plot' started.
Now, for the specifics:
Spoiler:
- I liked the way that the reveal of exactly how he survived was kept near to the end, but that it opened with a theory, kept people guessing for most of the episode. While I agree it was perhaps a little 'disappointing', to quote Anderson, I actually like the simplicity of it, the fact it was all so obvious from everyone's POV but Watson's.
- The scene with Watson's reaction to Sherlock's return was excellently played by both parties, Sherlock dropping such unsubtle hints that Watson completely failed to notice. The scenes following across various fast-food outlets were both hilarious and excellently performed.
- Some absolutely corkers of lines. 'I don't shave for Sherlock Holmes', Sherlock's 'Thank You... Blud' to Mycroft and many others were just great.
- The simple resolution of the bomb plot was well-handled, considering how weak it could have been had it been left to worse actors and writers. In fact, there was something of a lack of real plot this time, but it allowed them to do a lot with the characters, which is really more important.
- The hanging plot of who tried to kill Watson should go somewhere interesting, it'll be interesting to see if whoever it is is trying to get to Sherlock or just after Watson. Could be a nice twist.
So, all in all, a good'un, and roll on the next episode. Welcome back, mr Holmes...

Absolutely amazing. I was afraid that it would be like Dr Who, with a rubbish plot and over stretch it. But it was just great, and the way Sherlock faked death very satisfying.
Basically what Paradigm said. My favourite scene was:
Spoiler:
When Sherlock and Moriarty are giggling on the roof pushing off the cardboard cutout. Absolutely brilliant!

The roof scene was priceless.

They might as well use all the 'red herring' footage they filmed.
To prevent the proper death scene getting out, they filmed a lot of others. Throwing them into the episode was just good use of license-payers money
I personally don't think the explanation given to Anderson was ACTUALLY how he did it. I believe parts of it are what happened, but other parts are a fabrication.
Spoiler:
I mean, he wasn't trying to fool John, he was trying the fool the snipers/assassins targeting his friends.. Even before he jumped, he kept telling John that it was an "illusion" and to keep watching him. I may be wrong, but I don't buy it!
Other than that, I thought it was a great episode. Can't wait for the next one on Sunday.
Oh yeah I'm fairly sure what he told Anderson was false, if it was true then it would kind of undermine a lot of what made the Reichenbach fall so good.

I think Mycroft said that he had bribed the sniper targeting Watson. Sherlock wanted to fool Moriarty's network into thinking he was dead, so that he could infiltrate them without them suspecting.
Absolutely brilliant, my favourite show on TV (along with Game of Thrones) and didn't disappoint. It's so imaginatively filmed, the way the different shots feed into each other, you can tell a tremendous amount of thought has gone into it. Wonderful touch of humour as well.
My only real disappointment is how the plan to fake Sherlock's death really ended up trivializing Moriarty's potency as a rival.
As for the plan itself, Watson says it himself pretty perfectly, it doesn't really matter how it happened. They've covered enough theories already, and in the face of god-mode planning, plausibility isn't really much of an issue.
I'm wondering if the bit with Watson was targeted at him or Sherlock. Initially I thought it was John, but a few of the texts speak specifically to Holmes so it is hard to say. I'm wondering if it doesn't somehow involve Watson's fiance in some capacity.
Also Jen from IT Crowd looks weird blonde.
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.
Benedict's parents don't really look like him eh ?
Guy at the end appears to be the villain from episode three.
Assuming then that the kidnapping was something of a reaction test ..?
For those of you overseas the last eatery they wound up in as Sherlock reintroduced himself to Watson was a kebab shop , the last resort/stop off on a drunken night out in the UK.

I too am wondering about this. The fact Sherlock didn't know who it was and the fact they actually went for Mary with the threats rather than Sherlock perhaps suggests it was targeted at John or Mary rather than Sherlock. We'll see, and as the next episode focusing on John's wedding, if there is a plot against him and his future wife it will likely come to a head there.

Do you mean you expect him to be the villain in episode 3 of this series (what I'd assume) or that he was in episode 3 of series 1/2? I ask as I've seen people mention recognising him but can't see it myself.
