I like his war walker.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Three questions regarding the alien spore-pod -

#1 do we have an eta?
#2 any intention of adding tentacles or some such for weapons upgrades?
#3 do we know how much they will cost?

Thanks!

(I'll likely be buying several lol)

Edit - Also, could we get a comparison shot? ie. beside a Carnifex, gaunts and a Zoë?

There is a shot two pages or so back of a pod next to a Genestealer.

As for the rest, I'll put those questions up on our forum. What I can offer for how is:

#1: we don't, I have no clue when the pod is going to finished and sent off to Ed. Then there is the mystery of when (and if) it will be cast and released.
#2: let me get back to you on that one!
#3: that all depends on the material and labour costs Ed has to make to produce it.

Also tell him , remember the katana's sheath is usually tied to his side , so at most it can move like half a feet?

So try to picture the "arc" of which the katana is draw at from . At the current stance shown in the green sculpt , the arc would be slicing the floor or his feet , or it wont be unsheathed at all because remember his legs are bent?

But if its done from the side , he have a whole side free to unsheathe from. Not to mention the force of impact most efficient from a draw like that , is around like 110-130 degree of his upper torso.

If he is miraculously able to unsheathe from the sculpted position , his sword will be out at like ... 180 degree + , then of course his whole front will be exposed while he draw his sword....

Also aren't Katanas shieved edge up? So the sword would have to be the other way around.

I agree with Luna and Kyoto on this one. It does rather make the model look a bit silly the way he is drawing the sword. To other's points, LOTS of models these days are pretty silly, and yet still cool, but when making a more realistic looking model (drawing on historical reference so heavily) I think you really have to stick to "realism" more heavily. It is one thing to see a big robot with a sword that should weigh more than it does (which still looks bad in my opinion) but quite another to see a fairly historically acurate man attempting to do something that is awkward at best and really pretty impossible.

Granted, I am a reinactor so little things like that stand out and bug me a lot more than they do most people. Still, I think most people would look at that and know something was off kilter, even if they couldn't put their fingers on it. I think rotating the torso to the right ~70 degrees while leaving the sword where it is would offer more of a leaning dynamic that would help offset the awkward size of the sword. Here's a pic to kind of explain what I mean:
http://www.precisionmartial.com/images/iaido1.jpg
Essentially the torso faces the opponant, with the pelvis pointing away at ~70-90 degrees and the front foot pointing at the target as well.

Hope that helps! He might try also getting a sword or two and trying things out. Often times descriptions don't really make sense until you try it with an actual weapon, and it is a lot easier to blather about how a weapon "works" than it is to actually try what you recommend!

Only a Japanese sword could draw up such a tangent with a discussion between internet "experts" on the matter.

Yay finally someone understands!

@Absolutionis
Get over yourself . Im only mentioning something is wrong because im assuming most companies want to produce something
accurate. How would you feel if they make a space marine and he is holding his plasma cannon backwards?

Would you stay quiet because you arnt a "expert" on plasma cannons? or that you arnt an official Space Marine expert ? or you would bring it to the artist's attention
and see if he sees what i saw?

And no this isnt about Japanese sword or japanese anything. Are you trolling? Japan isnt the only country with sword and a sheathe.

Hi guys,

JT here... peace all, peace all...

First off, I must say that I appreciate all the comments so far and I know they come with good intentions.

@lunahound: I understood what you said, and I did not say that you were wrong, no hard feelings. As for the pose, yes, it is not accurate if it was the quick draw. I only wanted to suggest it, not actually sculpt the quick draw, because the odachi does not seem to lend itself well to the quick draw. I also admitted, as you clearly pointed out, that the blade would not clear the floor. I sculpted it for a low draw, not the chest high one to convey a particular mood while hopefully not sacrificing too much plausibility.
In the end, like I said earlier, you are right on all counts and I really do appreciate you pointing all these things out. Just one thing though: do you really feel it is as ridiculous as a plasma cannon facing backwards?

@Empchild: Thanks for the support! Yea, I belong to the camp that feels that a mini is a mini, so I took certain liberties. I understand it doesn't work for everyone;

@Fafnir: Thanks for helping out with the explanation of the odachi

@Wehrkind: Thanks for the reference pic. I do understand the pose for the quick draw, even though I have never been in re-enactments. They sound like good fun. Pity no one in my area does any of that. Nevertheless, thanks for helping me improve. As for getting a sword? Wow, that's one of my dreams, tho justifying it to the missus would be a re-enactment unto itself

Yes and No. The severity and the consequences are different in that case.
However i used it as an example to show , "when we dont know what faults are at hand , its often easily overlooked without much thought,
but if we know whats going on , then it sticks out like a raised nail "

Im not actually the type of person that like criticize works. But i feel if the creator can benefit and improve from it , i should bring it up.
However if people feels thats not needed or necessary , i wont bring it up ( i see it as doing you guys a favor o_O )

I quite liked Luna's take on it and didn't see it as a put down, just some critical advice.
I sam the figure and said, cool a Samurai! Not knowing much about them beyond The Last Samurai and The Seven Samurai, I found all the explanations very enlightening.

Props to JT for his explanation about why he did things. It's always interesting to hear about the artistic process behind the finished product.

Honestly everything on troll forges site is pretty damn origonal, so it annoys me that people play that game. After perusing the forums their is a TON of awsome stuff that is going to be comming out soon.

Good point...

And that's where we'll leave that discussion, so that nice Malika2 person can continue to use this thread for updates and new minis. Let's not get this derailed or digressed or locked.

(but I am serious about the winky comment...)

Technoscream just sent off his finished robot models to Ed. For this reason the only finished pictures he has of them are the 3d renderings.

Graven - Robotic Infantry.

Durable & deadly, the infantry of the fully robotic race known as the Graven are more than a match for their attackers this day. The air crackles as arcs of destructive energy from the machines powerful electron particle weaponry ravage enemy infantry and vehicles, leaving only charred bodies & twisted armour in their place.

They will be multipart if I'm not mistaken, separate arms, legs, torsos, heads and weapons.

Oh yeah, and a little message from Ynek:
Sorry I didn't keep you fellas quite up to date in the last few days, but I've been out of town visiting friends in the Capital.

Anyway, I've made a 'first version' head, which I'm not 100% happy with, mainly the eyes. It took me a while to get two eyes the same (I normally do one bionic eye, or an eyepatch, or an obscure 'people's eyebrow' facial expression purely as a way around having to make both eyes look the same) but I eventually managed. However, I'm not entirely convinced that they look very human. They still look a bit bland, featureless and "Cyberghoul-ish". If anyone knows a way to bring a bit of life to them, let me know.

In addition, appearing for the first time here, is the slightly smaller heavy weapon option, which is a single-tube launcher, compared to the larger, square four-tube option.

In retrospect, the feet do appear to be a bit larger than proportion guidelines would dictate (especially the front/right foot), so I'll be shortening them in the near future.

And I'll be the first to admit that the model's wrists are indeed a bit thick, but this was mainly in an attempt to strengthen them, and prevent the wrists from breaking. However, if I wanted to narrow them down, it wouldn't be a big problem. A sharp knife, a decent round-edged file and a bit of patience would probably be all it would take to make them a bit less bulky. ^_^

The hands, however, are a bit more complicated. From what I've always been led to believe, the hand is the same length as the distance from the tip of one's chin to the hairline. It was through using this guideline that I settled upon the hand-size we see here. Although, in saying that, the hands are far from perfect, and the illusion of them being too large is probably a combination of several problems that I appear to have had whilst sculpting them. Namely that the palms are too long in relation to finger-length. (From the backs of the hands, fingers always appear slightly longer than the palms, on this model, they're actually quite a bit shorter, in addition, the palms are a bit thicker than they should be.) I'll try to fix some of these problems with a craft knife, but I accept that in all likelihood, I'll probably just resculpt the hands, anyway.

Very nice! A lot of potential there - and nice to read a sculptor's "self evaluation" as well. (Wish I had the first clue how to sculpt...I take my hat off to you.)

I will be looking forward to seeing the "Graven", and I think that figure with the tread-fether will go in my collection somewhere, definitely. I think you should thin down the forearms and wrists though, as discussed.

EDIT - forgot, I don't suppose there will be another head option for him? He has a bit of the "Scrooge McDuck" look happening right now. (Runs for cover from the C&D's from Disney...)

I'm okay with the guy as he is. Rule of cool, and all that. I like the fact that he's dynamic, and replicates a movie pose.

There's no shortage of stodgy historical companies that make their figures exactly perfect proportion and posing.

We like figures that are bald, screaming, and waving their hands in the air, all while not wearing a helmet in the middle of a warzone.
