But oh it has. If you look at the pic taken of the underside you'll see that the skids are mounted on the insides of the missilepods, with those huge pods for those small missiles there should be plenty of room for retractable landingskids, especially now that the skids remain on the outside.

I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.

But it was a litlle too late for that at that point. with that config it might even have looked better if the front wings where not added and the 'T' altitude-rudder was cut in two and placed on each side of the tailboom for a ''+'' rear lineup rather than the standard ''T''.

Something to explore in the future perhaps.

I agree, I think the chin-turret does help a lot (and looks much better than the original), but I'm afraid I can't find even yours a nice looking model! *no offence; it's GW's sculpting, not your painting!*

I think those changes sound good, particularly extending the tailboom and modifying the missiles (both of which sound like brilliant ideas). But I am struggling to imagine the change to "+" as you suggest, but the changes sound like they have great potential. Should you ever do another one, I look forward to it!

Any idea what we can look forward to seeing next?

Looking pretty good! I'd suggest painting the missile heads a different colour though to make them stand out a little more.

Hmm. I went and painted a little more. I think I have decided that this is the way I will paint my RG; flare effect. Not with grey-lining.. all those rounded surfaces are just too tempting to do it this way.
This took me about an hour and is a 5-stage layering from chaos black/german grey to a 50/50 german grey / adeptus battlegrey with just a drop of black in it. The model will 'pop' a bit more once all the other details and the base has been adressed..... I hope.

So what do you guys think? Thumbs up, Thumbs down?

Well from pictures it's hard to tell, as it could also just be a strong light on the model, but I think I see what you're going for and if you exaggerate it a little bit it'll look really neat.

Then I have gotten it just right, that pic is taken beneath a quite weak lightsource and the pitch black sections are the ones only painted with straight black. The rest is a blend of black and grey applied with a very strong overhead lightsource for guidance.
It looks a bit more defined when viewed directly but i think that the other details will help in this matter once I get some paint on them. I'll finish this one tonight so we'll see how it turns out later today. Yes I promise an update today.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

So, painted and done, test model 1 is. Talk like Yoda, I do.

I am quite happy with how it turned out, weathering was a bit basic but I'll try to get it rolling better on the next model.
So without further blabbering: pics! So what do you guys think? You Like?

The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls. The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does. Nice Raven Guard dude! but I think personally the blood distracts from how nicely you've painted the mini! I think it may look better with just the weathering? but that's just my tastes, other than that I really like him, black's a bitch to get right but once you work out a recipe you like then stick to it! and yours is excellent!

Thanks guys I am glad you liked it, the other ones will be sporting a bit less bloodsplatter, I mainly wanted to try out my new gore-formula and it held up pretty well. Blood splatter with chainweapons can be a bit trixy because of the rotating chain wich ''should'' give quite odd vectors once the viscera starts flying.
However the assultsquad I got waiting in line on the shelf will be drenched good and proper in the stuff.

Gonna play them in another mini-tournament this weekend to get yet again to grips with the 6th ed. Most of the army will only be primed sadly but it's just among friends so it'll have to slide. 4 of 8 players are bringing different flavours of Orcs.. so this will be interesting. (Classic speed freaks, a green tide, battlewagon bonanza and a ''little bit of every unit in the codex'') However I am dreading to face off Marcus' necron phalanx.. god damn warrior spam.. he even has these 5x5 model movement trays so his necrons can advance ''in an orderly fashion'' ie square block formations.

So, 6th ed is GREAT! perfect and lovely. played 6 games at 1750pts last weekend and it went fairly well. (4 win, 1 loss 1 draw) Flyers are mean when the opponent doesn't have any AA left on the table.

Anyway.. looks like the chaos codex is around the corner *holds thumbs* so I will shelve the RG, Eldar and whatevers and get back to painting the Legion again. ( Inspiration YAY!)
So I doodled a little while trying to get all the data from my itemlists into an exel-file here at the office. What do you think?

Concept-scetch (quick) for the Legion's company banner.

I must admit I have been terribly bard at lurking on this thread almost from the start, so I thought I'd rear my head just to throw some general praise at the contents of this blog, your alpha legion are absolutely stunning and have almost pushed me over the edge about 4 times to make me buy some and shamelessly copy your ideas.

As for more helpful comments go: I really like the banner, think it encompasses the more mysterious and occult side of them well, Calas does have a point with the eye though perhaps, I think keep the concept but maybe tweak it ever so slightly to loose the eldar rune look....No idea how, I'm just here to be overly picky over something I couldn't do half as well

But do keep it up. Like I say all your stuff is superb inspiration.

Very nice Ravenguard! Love the downward chainsword too! I quite like the way he looks, without additional freehand scripture stuff.

My only thing would probably be the battle-damage. The concept is great to break up the black, but it looks a bit flat to me at the moment and not really "chipping into" the thick armor plating.

Either way, another fantastic chapter space marine. Your Alphas are beautiful with their green-to-dark-blue... makes for a difficult bar when you're going for a standard black... But again, it looks great painted at your standard!

Thanks guys, always nice to hear that people enjoy one's work.

I think you might be right about the eye, I should probably leaf through my Collected Visions-bible and revisit the fruits of mr. Adrian Smith. I should go for something more the Eye of Terra meets the freemasons' -esque,. probably. My pencilwork always takes me to the slender, organic and eldritch forms without the presence of a ruler so the eldar/fey aesthetics comes naturally when I doodle [and yes, it's a quick 5-min scetch. no I am not bragging.], wings and spirals always wiggle their way in somehow. But I digress, a more square and blocky design is probably more favourable in this case, perhaps a couple of roman lightningbolts? We'll see.

J-Paint, J-Paint.. Fifth time is the charm eh? I have been modelling and priming a squad for the Legion, thought I'd finish the custom bases tomorrow since my order of plastic rod, card, tube and I-beams arrived today and I'm going to try to remember to pick up some aluminum mesh on the way home too. thought I'd try to finish one or two over the weekend now that [thumbs crossed, held and kissed] the new Codex might be peeking over the horizon. I think you will enjoy the sergeant, convincingly modelling him half-crounched, like bracing for a chargeing enemy, with his sword half-drawn from the scabbard on his hip was a.. testing experience for my patience. Frakkin' fiddly styff I tells you.

And you sneaky lurkers, Yes You! You there, talking to you indeed. I know you are out there in droves. 61k views and just below 600 posts? A third of them mine? I have been intruiged by this fenomenon for quite a while, I see the same tendencies in M-J's Dark Eldar blog, you know, his cabal of the drowned gardens? The baby blue and brownish ones? He's got it to.. that Post/View ratio of 100+. Think he does ''worse'' than me though,he's up around a P/V of 120+ish.. Funny thing that. I have formed a thesis about this (yeah i know, but some days are just sooo boring) concerning comparative skill and comfortlevels but I'd just probably sound like an ass if I wrote it down here so I'll just shut up.

For the flag I think by making the eye a bit blockier and more angular it would fix it perfectly.

As for the next legion installments i fear I may well succumb, It turned out I lied before, the very last time I got tempted I got as far as buying several seadragoncloaks from a bitz site with the express intention of the alpha legion. Looking forwards to the new guys immensely, even if it indirectly means my valhallans get put on the back-burner temporarily.

Heh, oh well. Just don't give everyone a cloak. With the Legion you need to underplay it, 1/3 or 1/4 has a cloak. The same with their armour, try to keep it mostly within the Mk IV 'Maximus'- Mk V 'Heresy' - Mk VI 'Corvus' patterns and shave off the overtly imperial or chaotic iconography if you are doing post-crusade stuff. If you want Crusade-era it's Mk IV for every penny, even if it's appalingly expensive. My Forge World fund for my Great Crusade army is around £440, I'll need about £650 though since I plan to buy the army in one fell swoop. That damn Spartan assult tank made things expensive.

Both the storm talon and the marine look fantastic. I especially like the lenses on the storm talon and the blood spatter on the marine. The campaign marker on the leg is also a nice touch, too.

I think a little bit of scripture on him would be finish it off nicely, perhaps along with some insignia on his right kneepad or personalization of his chainsword?
