Just a quickie. I need to paint a heldrake to go with a thousand sons army.

The fluff for the heldrake is that it's a mutated hellblade or helltalon. Were these fighters owned by the actual legions, or were they part of attached imperial navy squadrons. If legion, I'll go with blue and gold. If navy, I'll paint it like an ancient, knackered navy fighter. Any ideas?

I think they were owned by the legion with serfs piloting that's why the marines navy and guard were separated after the heresy so no one group could take control

I don't see why they wouldn't be legion controlled seeing as the legions owned all their other vehicles.

A legion was a self contained fighting unit with all required equipment organically contained in the organisation if the legion. This was the reason the Heresy turning of legions was so effective, and why post Heresy imperial forces are split into specialised units that require the support of other specialist units to be truly effective.

Well, unless there has been a retcon of the fluff, the hellblade and the helltalon weren't originally Imperial equipment, they are an exclusively chaos design courtesy of the Dark Mechanicus.

Wondering Why the Emperor Left

The Hell Blade and Hell Talon weren't around in the Heresy era. They were much later constructs and thus *probably* wouldn't be in legion colours. But they could easily have been repainted or mutated from legion aircraft, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a legion-coloured Helldrake also.

Currently not in posession of any armies - I merely theorycraft and discuss background,
Waiting for HH Book 6 so I can start an Imperial Army army.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Have they? They look like the traitor colors, not the original legion color schemes...
