Thanks to everyone on Dakka Dakka, it's a great website and I've really enjoyed being on here. Unfortunately (and its taken a long time), I've realised that I really can't continue with Warhammer. Ive decided to focus on my music and consequently really lack the time play anymore and never really do any painting or modelling. So to be honest with my retreat form warhammer there is no real purpose for me staying on this website.
I won't completely disappear and will try to maintain my trade thread. Thanks to everyone!

Yeah, I took several breaks from Dakka over the years but nothing says you can't come back if you pick up a brush in anger again.
Have fun!

This. I've been playing this a lot more due my lack of time at the moment.

This. I'm up to time number 2 of "Getting out the Hobby".

At this point, even if i can see a #3 on the horizon, i'm just going to stick my gak in the closet rather than liquidate it, because it'll be cheaper for me when I come back.

There was a guy in my club who dropped out of gaming due to it clashing with his music.

All he did was swap being mediocre with figures to being mediocre with an instrument. Whilst you CAN be trained to become a good musician, it takes raw TALENT, too. Enthusiasm and teachers only go so far.

Good luck with your music.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

I have actually been playing for almost 8 years now. I'm getting rid of external distractions in my life so that I have the time to apply my musical ability to a career (and obviously get better). That's not to say I'm never going to visit dakka again. I'm just getting out of hobby, I don't really enjoy it anymore anyway...

There is more to THE HOBBY than gw, quitting gw is one thing quitting the hobby is another. Never confuse the two

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

I'm going to go off the premise that if you really didn't care, you probably wouldn't bother to post on here... (sorry if that sounds a bit presumptuous! )

There have been so many names 'disappear' from the forum community in this way over the years, just as new members constantly join, and I'm sure a loss of interest is a big reason for this. Perfectly understandable, we change as people, as do our circumstances and interests throughout our lives. And, not many of us are lucky enough (or unlucky?) to just live in a kind of limbo with an unchanging environment around us, and to repeat doing the same thing repeatedly ad nauseum.

So, I'll repeat that common saying "a change is as good as a rest." Stop playing whatever you were playing before, throw it on ebay and get some money off of it. Pick up a skirmish game or some board games, something you can play with very little time expenditure, get some friends involved with it. It's very easy to fall in a 'rut' with any pastime - make a little effort, try something new, and you might be surprised with the result.

Next month, Jupiter comes into alignment with Saturn and you might find a tall dark stranger comes into your life..

I'd disagree there and say not to get rid of any substantial armies - keep at least one. When/if you decide to start up again in the future it's much harder when you're starting from scratch again.

NEVER SELL ARMIES!

Bad advice Pacific - naughty boy. How else will he be able to have boxes and boxes of stuff they will never use hanging about like any true gamer?

As to getting out of a hobby to get into music, seems kind of odd.

I'll bet you have as much of a chance making money on gaming as you do music. But that's just the odds-maker in me. :-P

Haha, yes. Sorry guys, that was bad advice on my part!

In my own case, I've got several fully painted armies that are 'mothballed' and tucked away in boxes. I intend to play with them again, but understand there is every chance that the next time they see sunlight will be in 50-odd years time, when my grand-kid is clearing out the great big pile of crap I left in my house, after my funeral

bacon who???
personally id suggest that you take a hammer to all of your stuff just so youre never tempted to stray from your music again.
smashing them as opposed to storing them will bring some nice closure to your decision.

Don't plan to make an absolute tonne of money in music, it's a passion of mine and I seek to pursue it.
