Not really looked in this section of dakka too much till now aside from painting competitions, but it seems I've joined the ranks of infinity players thanks to christmas and an Aleph starter set.
I've tried searching around but I couldn't find whatever the studio is using for the bases on their Aleph models, any chance they're a generic resin base or do they just not exist outside of CB HQ? Also is there any sort of 'rough guide' to how to play the faction, I had a quick peek at some lists people have been posting and nothing seems to include dakini tactbots and I of course now have three of the things!
A big thumbs up on the who to contact if there's a problem sticky as unfortunately one of the tactbots was missing the shinguards, fortunately I don't think I'll need them till I've painted the rest of the model as they look like they'd be awkward to paint around. Fingers crossed on the service being as quick as GW as that's one of the things they really get right.

Iirc they're custom made for each model by Angel Giraldez, the painter. I don't know of any faction that he uses standard resin bases for. But I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard finding a suitable alternative.

Welcome to aleph!
I'm in the middle of painting up my starter. There is loads of stuff out there on various aleph lists, but there is no 'optimal' list as such. Your takbots are more than useful. Think of them as a type of core infantry. Pretty cheap, pretty expendable, but still plenty able to shoot your opponent in the face. They have mimetism, which is a kind of camo, which makes them harder to hit. Most factions' basic troops don't have this. You might not want to use three as your model collection expands, but they will do fine to get you started.

Yeah, something you're going to see posted a lot is 'it's not your list, it's you'. Just put together a list going for whatever overall tactic you have in mind, and you're good. While some people will come in and say certain units are bad or overly good, with very few execptions that's just down to their personal play style.
One of the best things about Infinity is there is no optimal build for a faction. It's not like 40k, where if you play Tyranids and don't spam Tervigons you're doing it wrong. Look at the units, figure out a tactic you want to try, and build a list around it from units you like that fit that overall idea.
You're probably not seeing many Dactinis because everyone is in love with the Greek units Aleph get right now, along with the Steel Phalanx sectorial which Dactinis can't be taken in. I can tell you from personal experience Dactinis are still downright lethal, my main opponent uses a bunch of them - in fact, his list is still heavily based on the Aleph starter with a few additions.

Vanilla Aleph main tactic was often using an Asura or Marut to literally kill everything the enemy brought
The Dakini are "cheerleaders" they hang out in the back providing ARO in uncommon places and orders for the more important people
Besides being a Super Solo faction, they have some really amazing mid liners such as the Myrmidon with his ODD and Devas
Dakini stat line is pretty garbage but they are very fast and mimetism, I probably would not worry about spending too many points on them, and keep them with just a combi rifle. Tho I am assuming you won't do scenario play yet

Ah looks like it's time to get creative with the bases then, thanks loki. I imagine the tactbots will definitely see table time for now seeing as I want to get started with learning the game before I settle on a tactic I like (mostly because I know precisely no tactics currently). I can see why the Greek units are popular I rather like the models, very tempted to try and work Ajax in as I love a bruiser model in my armies but then again the whole range is very pretty. Might have to give the 'let the Asura kill it' a go seeing as the starter box contains that unique sculpt for it, did wonder why they were so many points.
Thanks for the info chaps, only other thing I can think of would be is there a paint guide or rough idea of what Angel Giraldez uses for the official Aleph scheme, I'm rather taken by it so I'd like to stick quite close to the studio scheme as it's part of what made Aleph the faction on the wishlist.

Oh excellent that's just what I was looking for, thanks Dheneb. I did notice Aleph seems surprisingly popular for what is a relatively new faction, I hope it's just because the models are pretty as a rule thanks to being newer sculpts.

They are really, really nice sculpts. And, even though they seem nicely balanced, think they also appeal to the people who want the 'best' faction (their basic Myrmidons are pretty nasty, and they have 'human sized' TAGs in the form of the Greek heroes).
Looking at that new Morat set, thinking how awesome it will look with those guys taking on the Steel Phalanx set

I got into Steel Phalanx because I like the look and I went into a Greek buying phase across a few game systems.

For basing, I use the "Omega Prime" base set from Dragon Forge:
http://www.dragonforge.com/Painting%20service/for%20sale/base_sets/sci-fi/omega_prime.htm
They look a lot like the studio ones. You can see them in action in my painting thread: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/541127.page

Ah, those miniatures.. I'm doing the 'we're not worthy!' thing from Wayne's World right now.!..
Those bases look ideally suited to Aleph. Just using the last of my 'raised' MAS ones now for a force, but next faction I start might well be tempted to give something like that a try.
