Subject: Hero or Lord mounted on dragon, can they...

So, I'm looking to find out if a ruling I'd heard is legit. A Hero or Lord mounted on a dragon (or other monster mount) leaves the mount. The dragon goes off and does its own thing. The dragon dies later from shooting or in combat, but somehow its points aren't scored unless the rider is killed too. If true, where's this rule? Seems kinda cheezy.
Thanks for the help.

BRB pg 82.
All models (cavalry) and their mounts are treated as a single model and cannot dismount.
Back track in the book from pg 105 with character mounts to cavalry.
The only way the lord can leave his mount is if the monster is slain and vice versa.
If the rider is slain the monster (dragon etc) must test on the monster reaction table pg 106, unless a rule states otherwise.

If either the monster or rider is killed, but not both, are points scored?

I don't know of a page, the victory point system is a bit vague.
We would always play that since one can act without the other you get victory points equal to whichever is slain.

You're supposed to only get points if the model is removed from the game, so you have to kill the whole lot

They can't get off unless they are shot/killed off. Mounts are just options. At no point can you say, "I'm taking off my armor this round. Or I'm not using a great weapon." Unless the model has a rule that says they can. You can't turn off your rules/options/benefits. Or daemons would turn off their magic attacks vs. Elf banner and Undead would turn off their Unstable always
You have to kill the entire unit to get points for it. Rider/Mount are one unit. If you kill all the gobbos on an arachnarok spider or all the skinks on a steggadon you have scored exactly 0 points.
