If you are looking to start X-wing and are in the States, your local Target store is clearnacing them out after Christmas. I have seen them for as much as 30-50% off. This could be a good way to get into the game or bulk up your existing forces.

Good luck, and may the force be with you!

Also a heads up, Barnes and Noble might have not just the starter sets--but blisters and boxes as well.

I almost got a flight of B-Wings today at 30% off, but then I realized I have no room for more stuff that looks pretty.

i can confirm barnes and noble carries lots of x-wing as I get most of my full retail from them. You mentioned 30% off? Did they have them marked down? I've only seen them at full price at BN but if they are marking down I'll swing by the locals again for moar ships

My local B&N had the Star Wars/Lego stuff marked down 30% as a "limited time offer".

There was a lot of other stuff marked 50% off, including recent DVD/Blu-Ray releases.

Was at target today for some pharmacuticals, so I decided to see if they had the clearance for Xwing going on. Lo and behold, there's a dozen sets at 50% off, so I grabbed one.

Just to be sure, would it be a good idea to pick up a second starter set? Seems to be the norm for most FFG products and it seems like a bargain at another $20.

Get another three, then you can play TIE swarm and 4 x Rookie X Wing, which are two very good lists.

I'll be checking my Target today, thanks for the heads up! I have one starter, so having a second is NEVER a bad thing. My TIE swarm will grow!!

P.S - No, I'm not TFG. I just love TIE Fighters and Interceptors, and don't play competitively enough to run them in a way that makes people cringe. :-P

Did you physically scan the box on a price checker? Some boxes aren't marked clearance or they are in the wrong spot.

Checked three targets here, no stock whatsoever. Called the local BN, regular price. Must be a regional thing.

Well it was a "limited time offer", so I guess it might just have been for Monday and Tuesday.

Well I haven't gotten into the game yet, but the price was enticing enough. I have one more target to check on my way to work today. Failing that I live 30minutes from miniaturemarket who seem to have the best prices I can find. I'm not a huge fan of star wars, but the game seemed like it was fun and a good price. What would be your guys suggestion for starting off. And I really like the look of the space mats so I will probably get one of those. If you have suggestions please pm me as I don't want to throw the thread off topic.

Thanks for the heads up! I had been periodically checking for such a thing without success and kind of given up. After reading this I went yesterday and they were 50% off.

Snagged 4 boxes (2 for a friend, 1 for me and 1 because of I don't know why, really...) so now I should be done until Imperial Aces and such come out.

Grabbed my second set today. Now looking at getting the TIE fighter and X-wing expansions.

Anyone have any advice on storage? I've heard good things about Battlefoams' custom trays.

ive avoided the battlefoam custom trays since I dont feel like it really allows you to future proof your collection. Unless you plan on getting a custom tray and only buying the options the try has in it. I've been using a tacklebox with pluck foam

Thanks for the tip! I'd been looking to get into X-Wing and found some starter sets at a local target for $12 each. Needless to say, I've got a lot of X-Wings and TIE Fighters now. I also picked up a TIE Bomber, Y-Wing, and a HWK-290.

Are there any particular expansion ships that go well with X-Wing and TIE Fighter-heavy lists?

As crazy as it may sound, if you haven't yet, I HIGHLY recommend grabbing both the X-wing and TIE Fighter single expansions, as they both have different (and debatably the best) pilots for each ship.

It will greatly expand your options. Wedge is very deadly since he reduces your evade against him and Garvin is great for generating focus, freeing you to take other actions with other ships.
Howlrunner is almost essential for any TIE swarm of less than 8 ships (any ship within range 1 gets to reroll 1 die on a primary attack), Backstabber is great on his own to come around while the opponent is dealing with the main forces. Finally, Winged Gundark is good against ships that have a ton of hull, as he can convert a hit to a crit (thus hampering the opposing ship with debuff after debuff).

I use a tupperware box for storage. Just keep the plastic boxes the ships come in and you'll be golden.

Thanks! It makes sense, and I was planning on picking up an X-Wing and TIE expansion at some point just for that reason. I'm a big fan of the X-Wing novels so it will be nice to have the option to field Wedge, and more options for TIE pilots will be helpful as well.

Also, welcome to Dakka!

Saint louis either didn't have them or maybe miniaturemarket went around and picked them all up. Either way I bought my first set from the local flgs at full retail so I could read it and start getting an idea of how I want to set up a table for it.
