I am pretty new to IG and would like some advice.

Can anyone give me some advice on what to field I have no idea.

I normally field DA so I am ok with marines but not guard.

I normally play against Tau and GK

At early point levels my playstyle with guard is to surprise my opponent with armor saturation, as many do not expect it.
HQ-
CCS
Troops-
Platoon, 2 Infantry squads with autocannons
2x Vet Squads in Chimeras with 3 plasma guns
Fast-
1x Vendetta Gunship, the PCS should go in here for last minute objective grabs
Heavy-
Leman Russ Exterminator w/ Lascannon

The idea is that the manticore and Leman Russ will taking out long range threats, and the enemy will be overwhelmed by the firepower of those along with plasma vets and a Vendetta for good measure. I forgo the Aegis Line purely for the effect of my enemy seeing a wall of armor at 1000 pts plus having a vendetta to worry about.

Correction: He shines all the time . First thing you should get is Marbo and then build your list. Just my opinion.

Because marbo owns stuff, Lrs blob marines anything and everything.

A 1000pt list my friend plays is:

Hq-CCs x4 meltas in vendetta

Troop-vets-x3 flamers (I think its 3 flamersor maybe x2 flamers and 1 HF)

Troop-same as above

Fast- x3 vendettas

Heavy manticore manticore

I don't have the codex but from what i can remember its similar to this.
