So, I've recently finished these, and took some pictures of 'em after making my own cheap white background from a Battleforce box.. As you might see, I'm not a great painter ( ), so any advice on how to improve would be very welcome!

The entire squad.

Meltagunner, with a grimdark shadow covering his eyes... (still need to experiment with the light!)

Vox Caster.

Junior officer. Very junior, because as you can see, he was stupid enough to get involved in close combat!

Not bad they look very good! For the lighting where do you have the light right above the guys?

It looks good and tabletop. However, you can improve a some.

A few quick tips:
1) Try to stay completely away from drybrushing. Some people swear by it. But it's just a less than ideal method for accomplishing highlighting. Get in the habit of doing : basecoat, wash, 1st highlight, 2nd highlight.
2) Thin your paint down. Don't try to get full coverage in one pass. Take your time and do it in 3-5 coats. You'll see a much smoother finish.
3) Don't finish your paintjob on a wash. Instead, use the wash immediately after a basecoat, and before any highlighting is done.

Now go paint 100 guardsmen!

Ha, thanks for the advice! I'm painting some Dark Elves next - I'll be sure to try some advice you gave on 'em!

The light wasn't right above 'em, wasmore shining on the lads like a sun. My lamp doesn't really like to go down. I'll have to ask him very nicely if he wants to do so for me

I like the gritty and realistic theme you´ve got going on there but you could make them pop even more if the mud and the cloth of their uniforms would have more contrast.
