So out of curiosity, I thought it might be interesting to ask Dakka, what's your favorite power armor and terminator armor used by the space marines (not including the extremely unique and varied armors such as Chaplain or Artificer armor)? Both in an appearance, fluff, and modeling aspect.

I personally dearly love both Maximus and the classic beakie armor, with maximus looking more unique to me than the standard aquila armor (probably helps it's not shoved into my face constantly), with especially the design of the helmet being fairly interesting compared to the fairly dull Iron and Crusade armors- the helmets of which look like a poor hollywood prop attempting to look like medieval gothic plate. It's also why I like Corvus, which bares great similarity to old jousting armor without looking like your average popular portrayal of a knight.

As for Terminator, it's a tough tie for me between Tartaros and Cataphractii armor, although I probably lean Cataphractii for the classic heresy feel. Plus for some reason I've always liked the top-knots on Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus armor.

I selected Aquila, because I think it is so iconic.

I also selected Indomitus pattern, since Chaos Terminator Armour is my favourite and it is technically Indomitus with extra decorations.

Always found that weird. The main legions should be decked out in Cataphractii armor, not Indomitus.

I'll vote MK II. I just like how knightly it looks, which suits the Marines as well as the times of the Great Crusade. But I also like how archaic it looks, which in my mind is a nice reflection of a lot of mankind's tech, considering that they used to be far more advanced. If I wanted to start a HH army, this'd be the armour I'd want my army to be wearing.

I will say that I dislike the MK V armour, though. Those bumps just look odd.

The models for Chaos Terminators predate all these new armour types from HH

Also I might be the only one who doesn't like beaky/studded marines. Never understood the appeal.

Yeah, those do look weird. It's like they found a bunch of dead daleks and salvaged their armor for new armor plates.

Mark 5 for me, I love the studs, it helps break up the overly flat plating of the more popular marks, I do however like mark 4 for the helmet, and the neck piece of the mk 8.

Didnt vote for terminator, since its not strictly power armor

Technically it is, since it is a powered exoskeleton and it shields from radiation, even if it was originally used as maintenance suits in fusion reactors on ships during the DAoT :p

I love the beaky Corvus helmets and the riveted Heresy-era armor. In general, the less ornamentation on the armor, the better, in my opinion. It's meant to stop you from dying, not be a mobile art installation.

Depends. I for example like the ornate armor of Chaos Chosen or how the ornate armor fits with the fluff of a legion like the Emperor's Children, but a Chapter like the Iron Hands or Imperial Fists being decked out ornate details and general vanity doesn't fit with their character. And chapters like the Raptors shouldn't have nearly anything on their armor. It also fits better with CSM's with their greed and vanity than the majority of Space Marine loyalist chapters of undying loyalty.

It's part of the reason why I never liked the Grey Knights or the Ultramarines too much, or at least Sicarus.

My favourite marks of power armour are Corvus and Maximus, dunno why.

I didn't vote for termi armour because it's hard for me to choose between them. But if I have to pick 1 of the 3 it would probably me Tartaros-pattern.

Probably cause' they just look different/unique. Corvus and Maximus really stand out from the kind of armor helmets you'll find in say, Star Wars, which is part of the reason why I don't like the appearance of Heresy armor.

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

I voted for the MKVIII armor, Errant pattern, fixes the bullet trap design flaws, same stylization as the mark VII, no beaks, no studs, and looks more functional and up armored than previous models.

Voted Mk. 8 and Tartaros.

I like the general aesthetic of the Mk. 7, and it's very iconic, but the Mk. 8 fixes some of the very obvious weaknesses in the design. It feels well armoured, functional while maintaining what is, to me, the classic Marine look. I wish there was a more practical way to get it en-masse; one suit per tactical kit doesn't quite cut it, especially when I've just got into Minotaurs. I need me some Mk. 8.

Tartaros, for terminator armour, looks the most practical, functional and advanced. It's bulky enough to look hard to kill, but not so much so that one wonders how the user actually moves of strikes the enemy, like Indomitus. I also have 10 of them, and they are mighty sexy, even though they die en-masse in this edition.

I'll also echo the dislike for Mk. 5; fluffwise, it makes perfect sense; sub-par, mass-produced design made from spare parts and half finished components from a time of enormous crisis to replace extremely high casualty and equipment losses, and looks the part. Doesn't mean I want it in my army, though I've used a few studded, rimless shoulder pads for Mk. 6 marines.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Surprisingly I began to really like beaky Corvus pattern. But its probably because I like Corax fluff ) On the other hand, Indomitus pattern is simply ugly, ugly, ugly...

Yeah, Corvus just looks cool. I just love that beakie helmet, and looks great on assaults. Of course, it helps when it's the proper straight beak, and not that weird lumpy thing in Relic's Space Marine game (when they previous had just fine Corvus helmets in DOW).

Mark V. I just like the desperation and crudeness of it, combined with it's mass use by the more brutal chapters who would use it due to sustaining high(er) losses and/or the more less equipped modern chapter utilising and wearing it as a badge of honour.

A marine, charging at you down a corridor with crude stapled together armour and huge chunks missing from it due to the firepower he has already absorbed yet it isn't stopping him from taking you out.

For similar reasons, I like the MkII and III also but not as much as the V.

When I was younger I use to be a big fan of the MkVI in large number due to it being a cross between crude yet sophisticated and advanced as well, but that appeal isn't so strong for me now.

Oh god yes, the Corvus pattern helmet looked awful in that game.

Voted for Mk VI Corvus but the Aquila armour is a very close second. Both look really good.

MKVIII Errant and Cataphractii all the way!

Forgeworld has already gotten me 1/2 way to my dream army with the Cataphractii releases for the HH series.

Now I just need them, or GW, to release a 'true' MKVIII armor set...

i cant help but love the corvus pattern, i just like how it is really the first armour that looks like it was designed with movement in mind, in HH there is all sorts of talk about how quick marines are and whatnot but can you imagine anything moving fast in MK II or MK III plate? it doesnt seem right,

MK VIII is a close second though and for TDA it has to be the cataphracti

Those are my favorite as well. Least favorite has to be the heresy version. It just looks silly with the bumps to me.
