A friend of mine and I were playing 40k a couple days ago when we began to talk about grenades and the distance that they could be thrown. We thought that it was weird that a guardsman could throw a grenade as far as a Chapter Master. So we came up with this system. In order to figure out how far a model may throw a grenade, take their Strength value and multiply it by 2. So a Tactical Marine could throw a grenade 8", while a guardsman could throw it 6".

My favorite thing about Dakka is watching people come up with rules to add a bit of detail and almost invariably hitting on ideas that are very close to 2nd Ed

A frag is generally given a 30 meter distance in real life, but when a bolter can only fire twice at 12" or once at 24" then maybe 8"-10" would suffice. I know they are used for figuring the assault phase now right, and not thrown during a shooting phase. House rules man, go for it if it works for you.

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you and to hear the lamentations of the women.

Except only a single model per unit can throw a grenade each turn. (Of course, in Kill Team, it gets a bit out of hand...)
