Need help with a list for my first up coming Tournament in March. Wanted to get a list out so I can play/ tweek to get the kinks out.
I'll be running a tau and enclaves list at 1750.

Tau

Buffmander

Riptide - EWO, Ion, Fusion
Riptide - EWO, HBC, SMS, VT
XV8 suicide suit - 2xFusion

FW x 8
FW x 8
FW x 8
Kroot x 10 - Snipes

Paths x 6

Broads x 3 - HYMP, SMS, 2x Missle drones

Enclaves

Ethereal

Riptide - HBC, EWO, VT,ECPA, Talisman
XV8 x3 - 2x pods each
XV8 x2 - 2 plasma, 2 Fusion, Target lock

I could use more Marker lights to start, and paths are an easy FB, that is why I like Mark'O's but the points are tight. Maybe add marker drones to suits?
Thanks for the help

You need to find 15 points because you need EWO on all 3 Broadsides.

Your second Crisis team should probably just be all fusion. Drop em in and take out 2 tanks with a lil marker support. You can probably drop the single suicide suit from the primary det. to make up some points if you do this.

What does your Buffmander have? It could be cheap with just MSS&CCN or it could have the kitchen sink...which is it?

I would just go IA on the non-ECPA HBC tide. The earth casted one + EWO Bsides (when you pay for them) will be enough AA. But you could use a second Ion Accelerator.

Rule #1 is Look Cool.

I usually run the buffmander with MSS,CCN and Purechip.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll drop the suit and adjust the rest.
A second Ion would be nice. Probs the non-ECPA?

Looks like I already added the EWO on the broads but but forgot to add to the list. So I now have 69 points spare

Yes, non-ECPA.

Your meta allow Fore World? If so that's a couple Tetras.

Otherwise, another squad of Kroot isn't a bad idea; with a hound.

Awesome, you've got the slots use them as separate units. They're great for deep striking Crisis. And the marker support is great too per point. Use terrain to block LOS whenever possible while maintaining effectiveness, they are made of cardboard.

I don't think that Fire Warriors or Pathfinders should be considered in competitive builds. IMO Pathfinders are easy first blood for your opponent.

I agree about the paths. I don't want to give away FB so easily. Serpent shield to the face! wouldn't mind running maybe marker drones with suits or mark'o. Practice will make perfect.

The list is of course up to you, so the fact that you are running 3 riptides is great. That should be pretty formidable on their own. I suggest running some marker-light support like Sky Rays. The only other thing that I notice is that you have only 1 suicide suit. One suit DS alone is not going to do very much. I would take a squad of 3x Shas'ui all with TL FB and a Plasma. It takes all of your possible slots on weapons, but this is a great squad to deal major damage. If you put Farsight with them, the don't scatter. This would pretty much be a plant, shoot, kill, JSJ away type of unit. It pretty much erases whatever (whatever is relative) model is troubling you in one turn of great shooting, or a couple turns of average shooting. I would also listen to The Shrike a lot because he has helped me a ton with my Tau lists. He has suggested to me to always take TL MP on single Crisis Suits that are DS for objectives so they can hold them late in the game. I think that you should do that too with your single suits. Remember, its your list and you can choose to play whatever army list you want, so take it to the table, test it, and tell us how you do. Then go back to the drawing table if something didn't work, fix it, and go back again. I hope that this will help you craft your army.

I am in the process updating my list. The question I have is, is it better to have a set of twin linked missle pods, 2xtwin linked pods or 2xpods on the suits. One way I can use makers on other units or use makers to get a potential 12 shots in?

Well; you'll always have a limited number of marker lights. As the game progresses, you're also going to have less because opponents' know how much we use them to buff our firepower.

I tend to twin-link my missile pods instead of doubling up, Reason being, I usually need my markerlights to buff Riptides and fusion crisis; or I need my Skyrays' networked ones for themselves.

At some point, someone on here did some math and double-weapons is more points efficient than twin-linking; but that information exists in a vacuum.

How much of your army requires marker support to be effective? What's being crowded out by taking so many double-weapons?

Anyway, that's just what I do. Works for me.

Tau without markerlights are just mediocre IG shooters. Tau with marker lights make them godlike. Only 6 markerlights from pathfinders (average 3 a turn) will not be enough. Riptides themselves require a large amount of markerlights to really make their firepower shine. You have three. I also recommend TL some of your suits because you do not have enough markerlight support to buff them. It'll also make your list a little cheaper as well as make the shooting a little better.

EWO is very useful to combat DS units. As far as i can see you have a pretty solid list. Keep in mind the missile drones are BS 2 so that unit might need markerlights to do some serious damage. You might want to see if you can play test this list with a friend to get a feel for it. The trickest part with Tau armies is nailing down the right amount of firepower and markerlight support. Too many markerlights and it's bad because you lack firepower. Too much firepower and you lack the support to make it effective.

Also no HH? It might just be me, but i like to squeeze in a longstrike if i can. You may not come across many AV14 models, but a guy that shoots with BS5 and tank hunter is pretty nice to have if you can fit it. Also a S7 AP4 LBT is nice to have too.

I am confused on the markerlight shooting. How do you shoot a markerlight? It says that it doesn't directly cause damage, but causes a hit (I believe) so do you just roll to hit and if it hits, then you can place a markerlight counter next to that unit?

Yep. Pretty much just roll to hit, any hits adds a marker.

So I'm going to run this list on my next game against an exprerienced player in my local store. He runs a Daemon list and is real strategist, I have learn't a lot from him. Hounds + rolling 10 on the daemon table hurts! lol

Commnder - CCN, MSSS, PEN, VR

Riptide - Ion, EWO, Fusion
Riptide - Ion, EWO, Fusion

FW x8
FWx8
Krootx10 - Snips, Hound

Paths x6
Tetra
Tetra

Skyray - BF, SMS
Broadsidesx3 - HYMP, SMS, EWO

Ethereal

Riptide - HBC, SMS, ECPA, ToAM, EWO, VT

Suitsx2 - 2xFusion, 2xFusion Target Lock
Suitsx3 - TL MP

1749/1750.

Thinking about adding another VT on a tide?

I have always had a HH in my list with longstrike. But I find it hard to fit into my 1750 list that take 3 Tides along with 3 Broads and a Skyray. Just running some lists without to see.

Your VT should be on the HBC tide. It needs EWO as well. Otherwise looks strong.

The only thing that I could so potentially going awry for you is not having enough HBC support against his FMCs. You might want to change one IAtide to a HBCtide, but make sure to keep at least one IA. I made this mistake when I played a FMC spam Daemons list. Other than that I think that your list looks good, and is is good improvement from before. Good Luck in your match!
