If I have a unit on top of a Skyshield, and it gets hit, but is also in range of a Void Shield Generator, when the round goes to the Void Shield, does the Void Shield get a 4++ save first?

Is the void shield a model on top of the skyshield?

It can be under it. I does not have a official model so size is not set.

No because you hit the shield instead, and the shield does not qualify to be "on the landing pad"
If you put the VSG building "on the landing pad", then possibly... but i think that breaks RaW for "fortifications stacking" =P

The shield is a special rule, not a model, so cannot gain a 4++ from the pad.

?
I was talking about the shield generator model, should have made it clearer.

This still applies, even if the VSG is somehow below the pad.
VSG is a "medium" building... think bastion.

Fortifications must be deployed 3" away from each other.
So you can't place the Generator Building ontop of the Skyshield.
The only exception to this rule is a Fortification Network.
However there are no Networks that contain a VSG and Skyshield.
If there were, the building could possibly claim a 4++ (debatable) but any hits against a shield could not. Automatically Appended Next Post: Slight correction, the data sheet doesn't say what size building it is.
Unless I'm missing an update?

And I was pointing out that it is irrelevant, as the shield rule provided by the vsg is not a model, so cannot get the save.

True nobody objects to that.

Hrm.
I had an opponent who claims that since the hit was generated on a model on top of the Skyshield, then the shield gets the invulnerable save.
...interesting theory as to why it doesn't.
Thanks for the help!

Not really a "theory" but how we normally go about resolving wounds, or 'successful hits' against vehicles. Saves are not a characteristic that is attached to the 'shot' or 'hit,' but a factor of the model being hit at the time. This makes it impossible to claim a invulnerability save found only on one model when resolving the shot against a second entity. Even if you accept the argument that the hits are going against the generator, and not a special rule, the 'model' for the shield generator would have to meet the requirements of the sky shield to get the +4. That is not legally possible thanks to the 3 inch rule.

To simplify, the order would be as follows in this scenario:
1. Hit targets a model on the skyshield landing pad. Model is within range of the voidshield from a voidshield generator
2. Can the hit penetrate av 12? If no, the shot is essentially ignored.
3. If yes, resolve against the armor value of the voidshield rather than the model
The voidshield, in turn, would not be eligible for an invulnerable save from the skyshield as has been explained above. The only thing eligible for an invuln save from the skyshield are units that are on the pad itself. As a voidshield generator, nor a voidshield itself fall into either category, no, the voidshield is not entitled to a 4++ save.
