So, i've decided to start an Imperial Fist force after reading 'Sentinels of Terra'.

I was a bit unsure how to tackle the yellow but here are a couple of finished models. The yellow was achieved by a white base, the a layer of averland sunset, a wash with yellow ink, another layer of averland sunset and a bit of agrax earthshade. I think for future models i may skip the yellow ink and keep to the averland/agrax combo as i quite like the gritty, dirty look of the yellow.

anyway, here are the pics, c&c very much welcome:

Nice weathering, the yellow seems a bit dark though which makes it less noticeable. If it popped more it would give a high contrast and make the weathering stand out

I think you should hit them with some matte varnish. They have kind of a shine to them that looks unnatural due to the brown wash

A good highlight would really make them look awesome

I really like it. I´ll give it a try with your method myself, I´m into the darker yellow too.

Your models and their battle damage look very good, but it feels unfinished to me.

If you would put a highlight on it or give it a lighter layer, the model would then pop more. Keep in mind that on the tabletop your models are viewed from a distance and in a group, thus you have to give your models something to stand out.

I think that weathering should be chips, scars and dust/mud. So I'm not that much of a fan of using a wash over the whole model, keep it just in the recesses (this should lighten up your model too).

Mouldlines. Get rid of them.

Though the advice people have given here is sound, I personally would recommend that you don't do too much more to them. Right now they are at a decent table top standard, certainly superior to a lot of the other armies I've seen fielded.
I think one of the major reasons that the responses to this thread were so critical is the fact that you've opted to use weathering on Space Marines - for some reason people prefer marines to be clear and crisp. (though, if I was you, I would still look into those mold lines )

Totally agree with this post. I think they look great. The weathering looks good, if anything I'd maybe suggest just a little bit less of it, but thats just pesonal preference. I also advocate the removal of mould lines.

Also, the flash on the first photo is pretty unflattering. The other pics make them look much nicer and are probably a more accurate representation of the actual colours.

Thanks for all the comments guys, some really good pointers (especially the mould lines, i always forget :/).

I wanted to try and stay away from a brighter yellow and keep to a grimy, gritty and generally battered effect. If you've read 'the sentinels of terror' you'll know that the Imperial Fists 3rd company were in the thick of it all the time, be it with their arch enemies the Iron Warriors or a large Tyranid force and i really wanted to show these many battles through their armour. As for the highlighting, i generally try to do as little of it as possible as i suck at it and prefer the dulled down effect

Tl:dr,

Less camp, more grit

Some very nice models but I'd recommend taking them in daylight, camera flashes are one of my pet peeves.
I'd agree on the mold lines but I'm also not a big fan of the red and brass shields.. I think they'd look better yellow and red but that's just me.
