Fortification

Skyshield Landing Pad, Ready For Takeoff -80

Total= 1775

Depending on first turn, and opposing forces the basic plan would be to set up the skyshield with Tigurius and the Centurions to over-watch clear paths/objectives and pop infantry or tanks/lords of war with the possibility of deploying Stormraven/Stormtalon using the Ready for Takeoff upgrade to take out the LOW or any AA units. The TC would be set up deep in the backfield. The lone techmarine would ride the stormraven adding a second bolster defense to the TC techmarine. The tactical squads would either hide in the backfield and/or combat squad depending on the mission. The LOD would come in from reserve to hit anything the air coverage had not handled. D-Weapons would be an issue no matter what since I have no LOW but hope the air power could counter them.

Thoughts?

A single Grav and Vet SGT upgrades on the tacs is (probably) not a good use of points IMO. Grav is best when it's on bikes or other models that can move and fire to full effect.

Combi-grav on the LotD .. a one shot grav? I'd ditch it for combi-melta instead.

Though a lot of people think Rhinos for Tac squads are a waste/give up kill points too easily I wouldn't go without them anymore (outside of a Drop list). Having them hide in the backfield means you're not claiming objectives!

Otherwise, I like it. Simple, should be fairly effective.

Would dropping the Grav on both units and leaving them with stock boltguns be a better choice? My thought was that the 3 salvo shot would be good trying to hold objectives in the back.

Lotd has "Slow and Purposeful" which if I understand the rule allows them to fire all heavy, salvo, and ordnance weapons counting as stationary. Again my thought was that 3 shots with a grav weapon and 6 more inches of range versus a combi-melta might increase their chances of taking something down.

Would dropping one of Lotd for transports and some specials be a better choice?

Fair enough if they're sitting stationary. Good against heavy armour (including, of course, low save models like terminators and most MC's) for holding a position while the bolters worry about everything else.

This is correct, they may fire them as if stationary. However, as a combi-grav, it's a one time use (even if that one time is 3 shots), which is why I would avoid it personally and would go with the combi-melta to match the rest of the squad. It's not a horrible choice, just not one I would make personally.

Depends on how you play. I've never used LotD myself and I swear by my transports since I started using them heavily (I used to have my tacs on foot for the longest time .. never again).
I would definitely drop the vet sgt upgrades and maybe the combi-grav on the LotD to get points for at least one transport.
