For £150 I can get

20 Gargoyles; 80 Hormagaunts; 80 Termagants; 2 Carnifexs; and 8 Ripper Swarms

I'm starting Tyranids and I can gets this deal, but I was wondering is it worth it?

I'll leave it to others to figure out whether it's cost-effective. But aside from the rippers, that's a very good start to a Nid army.

Screw it, I'll do the math.

Horms/terms come 20 for $44, Carnifexes are 2 for $90, and gargoyles are 10 for $29. Added all up, converted to pounds, that's about 300GBP. Figure you can get about 20% off online without any trouble, so maybe 240GBP to get those models new on ebay.

150GBP is absolutely a good deal for that.

It sounds like it is two Tyranid Swarm boxes. They should be a good deal for a starting army. Always buy in bulk I say.

Cowards will be shot! Survivors will be shot again!

Yes they are 2 swarm boxes and I agree that buying in bulk is the best. The models are brand new. The best deal yet!

Does anyone know how many points that is in the current codex?

That's a huge force....

Completely stock, without any upgrades, that's 1560 points. It's not game legal though to field all that at once....

You could get a fair bit of it on the table though - simply add a Tervigon for HQ and you've got a legal force:

1200 points
HQ
Tervigon

Troops
2 x 30 Hormies
2 x 9 Rippers

Fast Attack
2 x 10 Gargoyles

Heavy Support
2 x Carnifex

I think that's the most models (101) you could put on the table out of the combination you've got there... Use the Tervigon to spawn up your Termagants and hey, you could end up with another 20-40 models running around...

These days I'm leaning towards more models vs more upgrades; I'd love to field that in a 1200 point game and end up with 140 models out there

If that's on eBay, don't post the link or I'll be tempted to snipe it out from under you...
