So, had a fun idea - modify my Tyranid army such that it becomes run by Orks. So, picture things like a runtherd riding a Tervigon, dangling a grot on a stick, Orks with Hormagaunts on leashes running in the middle of the squad, fun stuff like that... I think it could be an awesome way to add some real uniqueness to my Tyranid army.

I love the idea of having the Orks competing with each other for the kustom paint jobs on their favourite pets... And I kinda want to paint my new Haruspex like Pacman...

The army will still be a Tyranid force using the 'nid codex and everything; will just have Orkies around for giggles

A few questions for Dakka -

1 - Firstly, a bit of a HWYPI question; would you mind playing against an army like this, that might have a couple of extra models scattered around on separate bases that aren't real models? Think like the Eldar Guardian Heavy Weapons - there's a model there, but it's not considered a model for purposes of actual rules, it's just there for pretty. So I might have squads of 'gaunts with Ork handlers herding them around, but completely ignore the Ork models in any actual game scenario. Would you have an issue with this, at all?

2 - Anyone seen anything like this, and maybe have some photos to show me? Ideas are always welcome! I think this guy has done is using Tyranid models as countsas bikes and such:
http://ironlichstudio.deviantart.com/art/Tyranid-Warrior-Ork-bike-1-114879251

3 - Any suggestions? I'll probably start next month after payday; will see if I can pick up a big lot of assorted Ork bits somewhere and start playing around...

- M

Yes yes yes. This sounds great, and anyone who has a slight sense of humour or enjoys unique modelling opportunities will definitely let you play your little Orks running around doing nothing! This sounds great, get working straight away!

I like the concept. One thing though, I'd rather not have "for show" models on the field. If you want to have some orks mixed into the squad, that's fine. But I'd rather have that 20 man blob actually be 20 men. Not 17, plus 3 not-there minis.

You want to have a few choppa boys hangn' wiff their Hormies, that's fine. If you have a ork with a gaunt on a leash on a bike base, I'll let the rule of cool override the "base it came with" rule.

Do try to keep WYSWYG in mind though. If you have a mixed unit of genestelaers, I'd like to be able to tell who the boodlord is. Who has upgrades.

But whatever you do, post pictures.

Maybe not the best time to start a tyranid army

Already have it - maybe people will go easy on me cause of this and not stomp my poor nerfed 'nids into the dirt quite as hard...

I'm thinking that any extra models will be holding chains leashing their pets; said chains will have little magnets on the end so they can unleash them. Then the orks get to sit back and have a beer while their pet Tyranids go eat stuff

So models stay WYSIWYG, nothing extra *has* to be there, but they still look fun

The bit of my brain stuck in middle school really wants you to paint your Orks like Ash Ketchum, and then give your nids Pokemon color schemes....

And I wouldn't worry about opponents getting confused- people put models from other armies as corpses all the time. As someone pointed out, if you do model a runt herd, I would make him count as a regular model in that unit, identical to the rest, so he doesn't artificially inflate the numbers. Other than that, rock on.

I got this bad boy I did a few years ago. Actually now that I look at the pics I can see that it isn't finished. I think I hit it up again a few months ago with some paint and finished it, (Flags are now checkered). I will see if I can upload some new pics sometime. Hopefully this gives you some ideas.
