so im picking up some of these great models and a 15mm leviathan to simply assemble(first time ive ever done this).
it made me wonder what army list would best represent them on the tabletop?

tau
pros: the eisenkerns armor looks like a decent 4+ is feasible. the leviathan would make a goof riptide in my opinion.
cons: id have to find other models to use as crisis suits however. the initiative of 2 doesnt seem to fit.

Necrons
pros: again, the 4+ armor seems a good fit.
cons: no clear idea for what to use a leviathan as. again, the initiative 2 seems out of place.

guard
pros: seems a general good fir over all. leviathan might make a reasonable substitute for a russ as long as the height LOS wasnt abused.
cons: the eisenkern may look a little too armored for a 5+ flak. no clear home for a leviathan.

eldar
pros: eisenkern as dire avengers seems a decent fit.
cons: no slear fit for a leviathan.

these are just the few that came to mind.
if youre not familiar with the 15mm leviathan it is about the same hight as a GK dreadknight.

Guard would be my choice. They have the heavy weapons platforms, I think unarmored officer heads and the price is right for mass use. Plus they have a great chimera stand in. If they ever come up with rules for Imperial Knights then maybe the Leviathans will have a place as well.

New codex is right around the corner so maybe we will see a rebirth of the army traits and have carapace guardsmen again as standard guys.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

Wouldn't this be best suited up in 40K general discussion?

To answer though- IG, veteran list specifically.

Leave the backpack off, and use the bare heads from the accessory sprues, that ought to give you a lighter feel for them.

IIRC the IG codex allows you to take veterans as your standard troop choices and they can be given Carapace.

Also, I think you may have missed one of the more obvious answers.... Space Marines!
-Being a bit taller and in fully encased armor with a bulbous backpack, I think they look every bit as imposing as SM power armor.
-The size of the APC looks to be closer to a Land raider than any other GW vehicle
-The 15mm Leviathan Crusader just screams "dreadknight" or uber-dreadnaught.
-When the Assualt troops come out you've got Terminators
-And then you can get a full size Leviathan for some APOC goodness/

I'm going to be using my Eisenkern Kriegsmarine units as Fallschirmjager drop troops for SoTR 1949, and higher tech units for Tomorrow's war.
Oh.. and of course in Iron Core when it finally gets released.

Oh.. you meant 40k? None. I don't play 40k anymore.

Some of the Atenociti's vehicles are chunky enough for use with Eisenkern, and Puppet's war has a cool looking APC. Also, I'm a big fan of Pig Iron, but it might be a bit to modern looking.

i was looking at puppet war's brick... pretty decent looking and almost a staright up size copy of a chimera.
solid find.

ive always kind of like pig irons tank but i cant seem to find a gw tank compartison shot anywhere. i saw one of the ironsides (i think that the name) with leman russ sponsons on the side. it looked pretty darn neat.

i need to browse antenocitis site a bit more. i find his stuff hit or miss.

i found khurasan miniatures aliens apc to be pretty cool and they have some decent looking tripod mounted heavy weapon to boot.

i like the eisenkern heavy weapons but the fact that you get one of wach for something like 35 bucks kind of sucks. it makes it hard if i want multiples of 1 ya know?

For vehicles 1/48 and 1/35 scale WWII German light armor (wheels or half tracks) are perfect. The official vehicle Mark designed is almost an sdkfz 250 or 251 with wheels instead of treads in the rear.

Actually i'd argue that they're to scale and 40k tanks are just small

I wouldn't argue with that! In reality though, its surprising how small many tanks actually are. The idea of the hull of a tank (not counting the turret) towering over a person is kind of odd. I went to the cantigny tank park in the suburbs of Chicago and found that I'm taller than the hull of virtually all tanks, from ww2 stuff to an abrams.

I get that, i'm actually curious where the idea of tanks being towering came from. Tempted to point fingers at the boom of WW2 movies from back when, but I could be wrong (only just though, Hollywood has a lot like that to answer for ).

I mean first and foremost, if a tank is that "towering"... explain how people expect to reasonably climb up and down through the turret on more than a few tanks?

The DFG APCs are due out around Q2 of this year. If you paint up enough troops to have a sizable force, that should help you wait. And you could get in on play testing since you would have a painted force.

got my 15mm leviathan. man its a really nice kit.
i struggled with it at first. for some reason step one really had me stuck...lol. i think it might have been because i was thinking the attachement point of the sprue was part of some of the parts. lol...
the hardest part i found of the whole kit though was gluing some of the parts together around moveable joints. i accidentally got some glue on the ball joint at the hip on one of my legs so now i have a snapped leg hip joint. easy enough to fix with a pin though.
i was surprised how well most of the stuff fits. a lot of it holds together well without even adding any glue.
i did struggle with the pistons at the waist though.... ugh. if any of you assembled one of these im sure you know what im talking about.

i wish the alternate arms were available though. id love to replace the sword with one of those cannons.

They will be, soon enough. They're not meant to be glued, so you can always switch a few months down the road.

Mate, trust me, I hate waiting too, but I've been in on this since day 3 of the KS campaign. We're all in it together.

And everyone makes out Chinese New Year to be a bigger deal than it actually is, I think. Sure, the whole country might shut down, but not for a whole month. And I know a lot of people who tune out on December 20th only to resurface during the first week of January. Especially if they have children.

Cadians for the grunt squads. I must have nearly 75 in various states of build, I want to go with a lasgun firing line with HWS backing them up.

I think these guys http://puppetswar.eu/product.php?id_product=264 would work well. Not cheap, but very nice looking 'lighter' infantry in a similar scale to the Eisenkern.

Very nice.

I was considering some Imperial Borderers from Anvil Industries as well, they have a Steel Legion / DKOK look to them.
