Hi All
Been a long while since I was here! I have a quick question for you peeps,
I am venturing into Imp Guard and I love the look of the Vostoyran legion but
the price scares me! If I had the money I would buy loads of metal Vos troops
and make a whole IG army. I will be buying the command and some troops to
act as vets, but I am looking for a good cheaper alternative to use as Vostoyran
basic troops. I was thinking of green stuffing fur hats onto IG heads and placing
those onto Cadian bodies with a Vostoyran colour scheme. If anyone has any
better ideas or suggestions, I would love to hear them!
Cheers All
Andy

I would suggest getting cadians, then get alternative heads either from pigiron or madrobot. There is also a female vostroyan commissar made by 3rd party.

Thats a tricky one as i think the bodies are a huge part of what makes a vostroyan unique. What about them do you like in particular?

Keep your eye on both Mad Robot Miniatures and Victoria Miniature. Both deal with Imperial Guard alternatives.

At the moment Mad Robot has the Kurgan Winter Guard. They might provide you a good base to model some Vostroyans around, but are really more suited to being Valhallens. The Mad Robot range is set to expand though.
Vic Lamb, many months back, previewed a range of heads she was working on. Among them was a furred hat head much like what the Vostroyans wear. So keep your eyes peeled in her direction.

Also look into buying WHFB Empire breastplate torsos and muskets for kit bashing, though it may get even more expensive that way..

Maybe it would be a better idea just to patiently stalk ebay?
As previously mentioned, part of what makes the Vostroyan's so cool is their dress.
But that's just my opinion.

If you have ever had the models OP they are amazingly detailed. Like many of the OOP IG models they have baggage, ammo packs, icons and other nice features that really make them look like soldiers. The newer guard range (death korps (although not as bad), catachan, cadian etc) all look a little bare and not kitted out for survival.

Vostroyans take it a step further over the OOP models and add that extra flavour unique only to them whilst retaining the quality that made the OOP guard amazing.

The only replacement i can reccomend victoria miniatures as they sell so much extras that you can make your soldier look armed and ready to live AND fight on the field. Something the new IG range fails to provide.

Cheap is gonna be hard if you want the detail and look of the Vostroyan models.

40 bucks for 10 mad robot minis is actually worse than just buying vostoyans/valhallans off of the GW site.... and you have to spend time on putting them together..... total fail. am i missing something here?

Then i am sorry to say, GW is your best bet. Which sucks in a way but at least they offer you what you are after. One idea is (to save money) buy a couple of squads so that you can use them as vets and then look at some suggestions above to use as the standard guys. Like its an honour to take on the weapons and gear of the homeworld that all the normal guys have to look up to.

Over on Batertown there is a guy selling two of these lots for like $130 each. Pretty good deal and you might be able to talk him down a little.
