So, I havent looked much into the New Necron stuff, but they have always been pretty good at removing armor from the table in my eyes, gauss weapons and monoliths shouldnt have to much of an issue with dealing out damage and being able to survive an onslaught

I got to participate in a game over the weekend a three way 1500. between Necrons, Space Wolves and Imperial Guard with Black Templar allies.

My wolves were rather Rag-tag as I had left half of my army in another box on my table, but managed to buff up and get 1500 points together.

anyway, I went last and in my first turn managed to pop one of two monoliths with my predator's lascannons. One shot, one kill, is this normal? everyone at the table seemed pretty shocked, and the Necron player was none too happy.

this was my WTF moment this weekend, any to share?

I did something similar a few games back. I was playing my Black Templars against some Chaos Space Marines. My opponent was trying out his brand-spanking new Defiler. I went first and destroyed it with my Predators side sponson lascannons. He was so pissed. On the flip side, on my Predators maiden game it got destroyed in the first turn by my opponents Forgefiend. It seems to be a common occurrence in my games.

I was playing capture the relic and my chapter master and honour guard were bravely running away and they were being chased down by a unit of striking scorpions,I blocked them with a tactical squad but couldn't shoot due to line of fire.

The tacticals promptly took an assault from said scorpions. My opponent called a challenge and my vet sarge with fist bravely accepted. Normal guys went first though the SS killed one guy !! To which my marines killed them all!! bar the challenge obviously

SS exarch hit twice failed to wound then my sgt decided to bring forth the might of the emperor hitting 3 times and wounding 3 times pulverising the poor exarch !!

The chapter banner defiantly helped though lol

I've had some absolutely miserable assaults with my death company. All dice related. I have 7 DC w/ a reclusiarch and had like 30 attacks re rolling fialied to hit and to wounds and still only killed one or 2 enemy models. I cant stop myself from shaking my head and muttering curse words when that happens... something to work on.

imho so long as you arent obnoxious about it all, or aggressive to your pieces or opponents, you are fine. I had a rather jaunty chat with the players as my own rolls were miserable on some things.

I think the best one I have experienced was using Tau+Necrons vs. Eldar. First shot of the game, Illic blows up my monolith, my first time using Necrons. I was pretty disappointed, not being able to see what it could do, but I was able to win the game in the end, even after losing 200 points to the first shot

In regards to my SAG Mek. He has some interesting moments. Chalk up another 6-6 killing 3 Terms and a Dread in one shot since then, too. My SAG Mek is freakishly amazing, it is so bizarre.

I'll give you the play. Orks are down, been getting solidly creamed all game after some ABYSMAL rolling for my Nob Bikers which i sunk all my points into.

One of the Wraiths is poking his head above a piece of cover that is otherwise obstructing everyone else (including the in-melee Lord and my Boyz)

The SAG-Guy lines up a shot.. It's a direct hit! (the third of his for that game, yeah, he was on fire)
He rolls the result... 6-6. The template covers all 6 Wraiths, all 5 Immortals and the Lord. A Single Boy is clipped by the very edge of the template. This is the turning point, the culmination of all things Orky lining up like some Celestial god has granted me his divine blessing for this one magical moment - except not. Because I screwed up.

I rolled the result (6-6) before selecting the target (the wrong way round) so me and my opponent, who is one of my good mates, decided that it didn't count, which was my suggestion because I messed it up.

So it wasn't as incredible as it may have been, but for one brief moment SAG-guy shined bright (like a diamond)

As always, one of my favorite moments is when a lone tactical marine chased down a (wounded) 20 man Horus Heresy squad and Sweeped it, an apothecary and the Warlord off the board!

Next favorite moment is my Autocannon dread killing a fully wounded deamon prince in one turn! even my vindicators couldn't do that! and they had instant death! every roll to wound was a 1, and the only wound that got by managed to be saved on a 6++!

one of the king moments also has to be a game against dark eldar. My bike list I ran was decimated by poison, and the only biker I had left was Khan! somehow, an outflanking rhino tank shocked an archon and incubi unit off the board, and khan jumped from assault to assault with only one wound left! that allowed me to catch up with killpoints, and I ended up winning!

My necrons vs a Khorne daemon list. He sent his bloodthirster up a flank where I only had a wraith unit. Took one shot with a particle caster, I added to the wraiths because I had five points to spare, which wounded him. He then failed his grounding test and took another wound. I charged him and killed him before he ever got to swing. Got first blood and Warlord.

Two recent occurrences:

Black Templar
- Emperor's Champion, sole survivor after Manticore and other dakka, charges IG mob troop behind ADL. Issues challenge, he declines and I choose Commissar to sit out. Champion wins combat. IG morale roll . Commissar executes a man and re-rolls for a nine. IG player thinks he is good. I remind him that he declined the challenge and can't use Commissar's Ld. Squad breaks and Champion predictably wins Sweeping Advance. Slaughters them all off the objective FTW.

Eldar
- Farseer casts Mind War (I believe in it!) on an unwounded Wraithlord. I roll and he rolls . No armor or cover saves allowed. Wraithlord down! First time it has ever been wildly successful for me. Might be the last :(

Another good one from this week (I was lucky and got a few games in) I ran a 2650 point with my brother (Templars) and deep struck my WGT near his dreadnaught and Emperor's champion, the current WGT pack i have is all assault weapons (I bought em, pre assembled) so no shooting for the squad at all, He charged with the champion, I passed my counter attack and after he whiffed all of his attacks, I punched him one time with a set of wolf claws and pretty much removed any and all good graces the emperor may have given him that day.

Chaplain fires his plasma pistol at an incoming horde of Hormagaunts on overwatch. Overheats and kills him, and was the last Space Marine model on the table.

The story about that action now among my friends is he chose to eat the barrel rather than face 20+ screaming Hormagaunts.

I cant say I would blame him.

Cultist Champion (geared for shooting) and last member of his squad charges a terminator squad (In hopes of slowing them down) and issues a challenge to the power sword wielding Sargent. He used his FNP to survive a sword hit then proceeded to kill the sarge, mutate into spawn, and wiped out the rest of the squad. Who says spawn suck?

I actually had two in the same game, same exact circumstances, same exact outcome. That itself is a bit of a WTF moment.

In both cases, it was my opponent getting ready to charge a unit of my Grey Hunters. In one case, a squad of Purifiers, in another, a squad of Paladins with Draigo. My squad is basically doomed either way (though at least I might be able to take a few of the Purifiers with me). In both cases, the charging unit is within about 4-6" of me, so assault is basically guaranteed.

Purifiers roll their charge distance, 4". One guy is barely in range, so as long as I don't kill him on the overwatch (with a handful of bolters), he's good. What do you know, one meltagun hits, wounds, and kills the only guy in charge range. Next turn comes around, I wipe the squad out with my Fire Warrior allies. A few turns down the line, the Paladins are ready to go lay the smackdown on my Grey Hunters, and again, I'm pretty much doomed (they've already taken out two squads in two turns in assault). He rolls the dice, it's a 3. Again, he's just in range with one guy, and it's a Paladin with both wounds on him, so again, I have no hope in stopping this. And my one saving grace, the meltagun, misses.

Bolters hit, I get two wounds, he rolls snake eyes, followed by a 2 and a 1 for his Feel No Pain. A Paladin charge stopped by the mighty power of boltguns.

Sad thing is, he did it a third time, and I actually managed to save myself and the mission because of his poor luck in rolling saves. His Paladin squad is all down to 1 wound each, including Draigo, and he charges my squad of Fire Warriors (with an Ethereal in tow). This time, he actually rolls something like a 9 to assault, and is all set to get in even if I do manage a few casualties, and facing off against 3 Paladins, I've got no hope of coming out of this one alive, outside of possibly having one or two guys flee. I do my Overwatch, manage to get a couple of wounds, and he promptly fails two of them, followed by both Feel No Pain rolls. Draigo dies, and a Hammer goes with him, leaving a lone Apothecary to charge my 11 Fire Warriors. I wish I could say that the Fire Warriors got ridiculously lucky, but they just managed to fall back and regroup on the objective.

I felt so bad for winning the game like I did, it really would have gone differently if it weren't for the fact that he failed a few easy assaults due to poor rolling.

Had an interesting moment last weekend. Belial vs Techmarine. The opponent's Belial hit but managed to save all my armour saves.

He took a wound from a flamer, plasma cutter, saved everything cept an insta-gib servo arm hit.

I was lucky the next game to wipe out a squad of 3 termies with a single frag launcher. Either way my opponents had very bad rolls.

I had an opponent not know the rules for having a character tag out of ongoing rounds of a challenge. My Librarian was in a challenge with his Wolf Lord, neither killed each other in the first round (he charged me). The next round I moved my Dreadknight up, charged into the combat and successfully tagged the Libby out. He wasn't happy.

My friends Sanguinary Guard got five wounds from enemy's bolters. He rolled four one's.

On the other hand, I once won a game with similar rolls.
On the last enemy turn I held two objectives, he held one and had both First Blood and Slay the Warlord. In his final shooting phase he shot my three assault Marines (holding one objective) with three Lascannons. Three hits, three wounds. My Sergeant had combat shield (you know, the 5pts uprgade that no-one needs) and he made all three of his 6+ Invunerable saves. In the end I had a single guy holding that objective. And after all that epicness, he failed his Ld check and fled

We shared a good laugh with my opponent.

I've got two.

First was back in the Lash of Submission days. As soon as they FAQed that it was a psychic shooting attack (after FAQing that it was NOT a psychic shooting attack), I lamented having to roll to hit, and my friends laughed at my nay-saying.

Come tournament time, fielding two of these guys, I missed EIGHT. Count them EIGHT lash to-hit rolls during a single game. I was so furious, but glad I could go back to my friends and be dead-on right that it was a huge hit to its effectiveness.




My more recent wtf moment was in an ongoing combat between some noisemarines, a helbrute, and a maulerfiend versus a dread knight. Nobody could seem to get any damage on him.

Nearby, on an objective, stood 2 cultists. Their leader was long dead, so it was just 2 cultists. They were targeted by a purifier squad, and rather than just remove them, I told my opponent to roll the dice.

Only a single cultist died. The remaining single cultist passed his ld 7 morale test. In order to stay alive through turn 5, because I knew I wouldn't get that lucky again, I charged the cultist into the dread knight, who was on his last wound. After the charge I was still within 3" of the objective, but the dread knight wasn't, so I knew I'd take it. I also knew the dread knight wouldn't attack me, because he had the maulerfiend to deal with!

Wouldn't you know it, the cultist gets a single hit from his 2 charging attacks rolls a 6 to wound, and the dread knight rolls a 1. Dead!

Now we knew the cultist was just a cultist, not a cultist leader, but we decided for his performance he should roll on the eye of the gods table anyway. And what did he theoretically get?

Daemon prince! Go cultist go!

I recently played my first game against eLylyth, I was running a Xerxis t4 Fist of halaak list. I go first move up the board and get into position in order to take the charge since she out threats me significantly and I figure there's pretty much no way I can get off an alpha strike. Well in order to get everything up the board and into counter strike positions I had used my entire stack, I didn't even think about it since it was turn 1 and I had a unit of Centratii in a shield wall formation, with Tibbles and a gladiator in between Xerxis and her force.


Well as I"m sure you've guessed by now she popped feat and since I didn't have any transfers she pulled off a bottom of one assassination. I was shocked enough say 'da feth?" right when she said she was taking her second shot. I didn't realize that her feat gave her army snipe and the extra shot, I thought it was just a poor man's Sloan feat where her battlegroup just got extra shot. There I was sitting with one of the hardest bricks to crack in the game, and because I didn't even bother to keep one fury on me, and there was the tiniest sliver of base to base line of sight she ignored my entire army and just roflstomped me.

My last game I rolled a 6 for the D6 amount of shots on my exorcist, and then rolled four 1s and two 2s to hit.

That was pretty WTF, especially as I was trying to get the last hull point on a Vindicator. A single glance would have done the job.

All the WTF moments I can readily recall involve Cultists.

One game, a 20-men squad of Autogun Cultists, with 2 Heavy Stubbers in the mix, fires at a unit of 6 Ravenwing Bikers. After incredibly good To Hit rolls I knew something big was coming, and imagine the collective surprise of me, the friend I was playing and his brother as the aforementioned Cultists kill 4 Bikers and the two remaining ones promptly run off the table.

Another game, it was an Apoc lite 2v2. Late into the game one of my squads of Cultists (ranged, but this time a 10-men one), fires at two TH/SS Deathwing Terminators. Both Terminators die.

Soon afterward a Flyrant barges in and removes most of the Cultists in the area, including another 10-men unit standing on an objective, sans one. The lone Cultist proceeds to pass his Ld 7 test on 3d6, inflict a wound on the Flyrant (which the Flyrant managed to save, though), then charge at the monster and survive the Overwatch volley only to, finally, die in CC. This one is easily my biggest WTF moment so far.

Azrael and tactical 10 man squad stand heroically on the hill as Dreadclaw lands and spills forth kharn and bezerkers - we prepare to die gloriously,

BUT Azrael rolls overwatch successfully with his Lions Roar Combi plasma and blinds the bezerkers - They last a round of combat to be reinforced and crushed by Deathwing!

Kharaxx, the Raging Whirlwind- my countsas Khãrn- killed far more in a game than he should have. FAR more.

That guy has killed, like, everything now.

When my mate tried to throw a grenade at my Heldrake (zooming) in the game on Sunday... Couldn't find a rule that said he couldn't

he missed though....

On Sunday morning (6th ed) my theses vs my buddy's chaos.
Demon prince charges carnifex (has wings so charges up to 12 inches) and kills it.
5 attacks, all hitting on 2+, then wounding on 2+ and ignoring armour saves.
fething power weapons.
On the upside, my hive tyrant chopped it's head off a few turns later in one turn (although my mawloc had already done 2 wounds.)
Some thing about a carnifex being killed in one turn is fethed up.

A single Fire Warrior killed a Callidus assassin in close combat...

This was in a previous edition. The assassin jumped out of one of my fire warrior squads and used their weird flame template weapon to eliminate everybody except the lone shas`ui (sergeant).

The poor fire warrior passed his leadership test and stood by to await his destruction in the assault phase. By some miracle the assassin missed on every attack.

Then I struck back with 2 attacks. Rolled some fire. Got both to hit and wound, then the other player failed both saves. So much for that assassin. The remaining fire warrior continued to hold the midfield objective for the rest of the game.

That guy got the "shiny bronze helmet award" (i.e. I painted him up special so I'll never forget).

Just last week, I brought a pack of Ratlings along with my Infantry Guard list against my friend's Necrons. The enemy Wraiths got the first turn assault on the Ratlings as expected, but instead of wiping the unit out, one stubborn hobbit decides to pass his armour save and then proceeds to roll for his Leadership. What the hell, you damn guy? Needless to say he died next turn, but it was the best possible scenario for my opponent; no retaliatory Shooting phase.

Those Wraiths did not finally succumb until Turn 6!

For me, it has to be the lone guardsman pistol whipping a Warrior to death followed by a Carnifex, in one game.
