I played my tyranids a fair bunch before the new codex, and I had a game against a pretty competitive player ,who played tau.
He basically told me at the beginning that I had no chance whatsoever. I then proceeded to only ever lose 2-3 gaunts to whatever he threw at them, markerlight-boosted riptides included.
I eventually won through my lone parasite of mortrex killing his warlord and running down the squad on my objective, while my wounded zoanthrope managed a 12" charge against a squad of firewarriors, surviving the overwatch and killing a guy, running them down too.
His disgusted expression as he muttered "you never should have won" was priceless. Never saw him again...

Serves him right! Glad your were able to beat that asshat. A local Tyranid player and I always seem to have good battles.

That right there summarizes everything wrong with this hobby, the "Net list = insta win" mentality needs to go, that and net lists just kinda tick me off anyway.

Yesterday my Eldar vs my brothers Tau, turn 2 he deepstrikes Shadowsun and bodyguard behind my line, kills my Farseer and Dire Avengers in one go, jumps away to avoid my Wraithknight. Next turn Shadowsun and co get hit by a D-Cannon... Slaughters them. His Tau move up to avenge Shadowsun, manage to kill 4 of my rangers in a building, the sole survivor manages to last 2 more rounds up there alone being hit by all manner of missile and terrible things. Wraithknight jumps over the building, swoops a fist through a squad of Suits and kills them all. Was hilarious to play.

In another game against his Orks, he used the Shokk Attack Gun against one of my tanks at the back of the force, suffers some kind of malfunction which sends the ork flying through and bouncing off my tank to get shot up by Dire Avengers.

Sunday, my Imperial Fist tactic Marines vs Chaos Marines. I play this guy once or twice a month and we have recently been going back and forth on wins. This was the first game he had his Helldrake. So I threw in my TL Lascannon armed Stormtalon for dragon slaying duty, as well as a ADL with Quad gun. I put my 4 ml dev squad manning the Quad...The entire game I put ONE hull point onto the Helldrake. Not that I didnt hit it, I just couldnt wound the fething thing. After 2 turns of not even being able to wound it it flies off the table and I decide if it comes back to ignore it. He returns.....and wipes out a 9 man Tac squad who was running for his Emperors will objective. I had mine manned by a partial combat squad of Tac marines. Had the game continued 1 more turn, I would have lost.

The roasted Tac squad was my Drop pord suicide squad. They were meant to draw fire...Well, turn one they took 4 of 5 havocs off the table, the last guy made his ld check. Next turn they took the last havoc off the board while getting shot by the 15 man cultist unit that walked on behind them. The cultists shot and did I think 9 or 10 wounds. I ended up losing 1 Marine to the shooting. Next turn...Tac squad turns and fires..18 bolter shots, rerolling 1's to hit. Doing 15 hits. 11 Wounds. 11 cultists fall down. They actually pass their ld check. They shoot...nothing. They charge..or well try to charge. Overwatch kills 3 and they fail the charge.

An opponent deep strikes his Mawloc under my devs and MotF. He kills all the Devastators but barely scratches the MotF. He does it again. MotF survives 5 strength 10 hits and causes Mawloc to deep strike mishap.

My latest moment occurred last night. 750 point game, I had DE playing against Tau. He wiped my venoms and reavers very early on and I was left with nothing that could deal with his riptide or hammerhead.

Yet when my turn 5 came ( I went second ) somehow I was sitting on 3 objectives w/line breaker and warlord and he had 2 w/ first blood. That was a huge WTF moment for both of us. He had lost track and didn't realize what turn we were on and had spent his T4/T5 shooting the wrong things.

Fortunately for me, the game ended and didn't go to 6. For fun we went ahead and played that round and he wiped everything but my warlord.

This was my second time playing against Tau; I've won both matches. Not bad for a 5e codex.
