I heard that flicker fields are no longer used due to the jinx save is that true or can you use the jinx save and the flicker field too?

Your post needs a clear title, explaining what it is your asking about, as per the forum rules (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/533152.page)

And as per the BRB, you can only ever take one save (armour, cover or invulnerable)

There are times where you might not have a Jinx Save, so the shields still have a place if they grant the same valued save.

The Flicker Field also gives you a save against Dangerous Terrain tests, and given the reckless way I move my vehicles, is definitely a useful trait.

Just to clarify, it is a 'Jink' save not a 'Jinx' save.

They can certainly still be used. What you've probably heard from some dark eldar players is that there is no longer a need to purchase flicker fields for the vehicles, because they're all skimmers and have jink.

The argument as to whether you should or should not spend the points for them is debatable, however, yes, you can certainly purchase them and use them giving you a 5++ which you would always be allowed to take (well with the exception of D weapons, but that's another thing altogether.)

Basically, think of it this way, if you purchase the flicker field, then when a wave serpent shoots a serpent shield shot at your raider, you still have a 5+ save. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to take a jink save against that particular shooting attack because it ignores cover.

To actually answer your question: no, you cannot use both the Jink and Flickerfield save. You only get 1 save per attack.

Reasons the flickerfield is still useful: any of the myriad weapons or damage effects that ignore cover(Like Close combat, many weapons, and dangerous terrain).

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

You're mixing a few things up. (just noticed robzidious gave essentially the same answer).

From a list building perspective a number of people don't purchase the Flickerfield upgrade simply because they get the jink save for free.

However, there is a problem with that line of thought. Jink is a cover save that you get from moving. There are two things that negate it. First is if you don't move then you don't get jink. Second are all of the cover ignoring weapons that various armies can bring. Ignores Cover denies your ability to use Jink. Due to the prevalence of Ignores Cover I *almost* always go ahead and upgrade my Venoms/Raiders with Flickerfield.

Flickerfield is an invulnerable save that is always in effect. So, no matter what you get to take it.

Now, when taking saves you only get to take 1. If your raider or venom has Flickerfields and has moved then you get to choose whether you are taking a Flickerfield (5++) or Jink (5+ cover). Bear in mind that the 5+ Jink can be modified by Stealth and Shrouded which you can get when night fighting is in effect. So, let's say NF rules are in effect, you go first and move your Venom. If your opponent is shooting at it from 30" out then you get a 3+ cover save (5+ for jink, increased by 2 points for shrouded)... as long as your opponent doesn't ignore cover. If your opponent ignores cover then you'd just have the 5++ from Flickerfield.

Hope that helps.

It's probably best to leave that conversation until GW figures out what a FAQ is. Although It's been way too long so I'm losing faith.
