But I am interested in learning about minimum wage robot assassins. At least that's what the link's text makes me think of.

What about smaller chains? My work is a School Cafeteria and there is no way they will buy this, nor the burger joint down the street. This could be worse, seeing a machine make your burger could be disgusting

And there I was in the other thread saying that it was actually low skilled, low pay work like burger flipping that was somewhat protected from replacement by machines, because machines capable of such dexterity cost a lot more than minimum wage.

Looks like I was wrong, and perhaps the age of mass unemployment to robots may be a lot closer than I thought. Interesting times.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Don't worry. Eventually the burger machines will rise against us, cause the apocalypse and then we'll need to make our burgers by hand again!

I just dont see it flying and i am sorry that burger looks like a abortion scraped from a synthetic womb. I have been a line cook for almost 10 years from Diners to Burger joints to fry cooking fancy dancy high end steak houses, pizza shops, delis, local bars and the human experience is why i enjoy cooking and people higher me to cook because i hold my craft to a high standard and dont serve food i would not serve my own mother i will take the John Henry Challenge to that fing Burger machine any day and i am sure people would enjoy talking to me in a paper hat then punching in a bunch of food codes like a red box cafeteria.

I doubt the machine will ever find its way into a restaurant that doesn't contain the words Donald, or King, or Hard, etc. This is a fast foot machine not a quality food machine. Those jobs I don't think are going anywhere.

At the rate they crank out burgers, the obesity epidempic will increase 10 fold. All they will need to do is sit back on their mechanical haunches while we eat ourselves to death in record time.

see, i'm seeing it more along the lines of them needing all the people that use to fix the burgers to keep that machine running and clean/sterile enough to pass inspection to be used

Didn't plankton build one of these once?

Edit: These comments.
All part of Obummer's plan. Raise min wage which in turn will cause them to be unemployed which in turn will get them all the generous govt benefits and in turn they will vote Democratic until the economy fails and the U S is no more.

Not just obama's plan. The progressives and communists have been working on destroying this country from within for almost 100 years. They picked up the pace in the late 1960's when Saul Alinsky etc hit the scene.

This would be a good premise for the next Terminator movies - instead of hunting all the humans down, Skynet just takes over Mcdonalds and cuts prices, and waits for everyone to die of heart attacks.

It does beg the question that should governments be just as worried about the lack of jobs as in the same way that there are concerns about pensions? How long before a big chunk of the labour market disappears? I will be interested to see how the Tories get around that in the future when cutting benefits. "We are cutting benefits to encourage people to go out and get a job... " What fething jobs?!

Well they've been inventing new jobs for the growing market, obviously some will be phased out by innovation, but for each phased out a new one potentially opens. Someone has to build the machines, fill the machines, maintain the machines for now. The drawback though is they need less people to do those jobs. Such as with self serve checkouts at supermarkets, generally I see one person there to provide help to customers, overseeing 8 checkouts basically.

I'd rather buy from a machine then deal with another McDonalds or Burger King employee.

Yea, once I got a burger that had a literal pile of season salt on it because the Cook was having a bad day. All I did wads order! Then again.... imagine what a crazy machine could do on a bad day too.

I imagine a machine is a lot less likely to screw up an order. As it stands now you rely on the person at the register inputting the order correctly and then the person (or people) looking at that input making the items correctly, then the person filling your bag to put in the correct items.
