Subject: Warhammer 40K Video Bat Rep New Tyranids vs Eldau
New Nids, hooooo! And wow, that was rough. We sound pretty flippant and bummed out in this one because we are. We hold out hope that there is more to learn about the book and that we are wrong that it's awful, but it looks grim so far.... Reecius' 6th ed Nids vs. Stave Stiff's Eldar and Tau.
Watched this last night @ FLG.com. Don't give up on the nidz yet. I think armies will look something like this.
HQ-Prime
HQ-Foot Tyrant w/ 2-3 TG
T-30 guants
T-30 Horm
T-3 War
rinse/repeat
E-Venom x 2
E-Venom x 2
H-Bio x 3
H-Carny x2
H-Carny x 2
Don't know how many point this is (don't have new dex yet).
I just think 2 groups of:30 term, 30 horm, 3 war, 2 carny and 2 venoms marching up the field get into HTH by T3 might stand a chance. And FU to flyers.

I don't know if there's any 'nid list that can compete with what you were up against but the one you took honestly looked downright terrible to me. Horde armies aren't really incentivised in this codex anyway but backing up the swarm with a grand total of 2 synapse creatures is not going to cut it; the minute those get pulped your gaunts are running off the table or eating themselves. Definitely a lesson for those watching to not leave home without synapse.

Its unacceptable for a new codex (nids), to cannot stand equal against a previous dex, or a combination of previous codexes. As it seems it is grim for nids, and this report proved that normal game circumstances just are ignored. I also can't undestand that they removed doom and pods. Maybe to deal with the third companies that produced them? Seriously I don't the problem though is taudar, it clearly is the tyranid codex. I fear for my traitor ig now...
Im not White Knighting the dex, there are some outright silly aspects to how they handled it, but I also think its more viable than the old one. How you build your list isnt the Codex's fault.
Well going over 400 some odd points, having your enemy tanks face backwards, can't seize, seems to not bode well for nids, as far as being competitive. I still want to be optimistic and give it more time, bit if that ain't writing on the wall..... I don't know what is. Hopefully we see some magic happen and get a Couple really solid builds to base off of.

I think the new nids have some scary potential, of coarse they wont shine right now cause they just came out and people need to learn the codex. Once they do learn it tho I feel nidz will be a pretty good army, just cant compare them to the terrible two (tau and eldar)
I have a hunch this is what the new orls will be too, everyone will curse at the release then they will magically become good as people spend time with the dex.
I would sign this contract but I already ate the potato
GENERATION 9: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

The problem is that unlike any other new dex (besides maybe DA) there is nothing in the Nid dex that screams SPAM! I think the Nid dex will do well this current edition, but is probably at a level of CSM. They are good in the hands of a good player, but they're simply not going to win a big tournament.

Reece are you trying to cause dakkadakka to melta from the heat the nids codex is generating?
I almost want to collect nids because I love the new biovore and spore mine rules. I think a nid gunline with stronghold assault automated weapon emplacements, max biovores, and double flyrant could be pretty amusing.

So people are basically saying "the nids are not that bad...I can't say how but they arn't!" and "maybe GW will patch their bad product and make it not so bad?"
Seriously, a few point cost drops on something that was already overpriced (and I think still is) does NOT make a codex suddenly viable or competitive.
Good internal balance, synergy and options are essential for any codex to be able to succeed in any competitive setting.
Tyranids have maybe a FEW synergies (Venomthropes, some psychic powers and Gargoyle Blinding Venom and other units in CC) and a few points drops but these things have been balanced out by your friendly neighborhood nerf bad and the above changes are NOT enough to give any Tyranid player any realistic hope of consistently winning games or placing highly in competitive events.
Nids might be ok in combat but they lack reliable methods to get into combat and they especially lack reliable methods for dealing with armor and fliers =(.
Reece (or anyone else), what do you think of a list that has the following:
Flyrant; 2 venomthropes; 2x2 Hiveguard; 30 Devilgaunts (thinking of 3x10 or 2x15); 30 Termagaunts; 2 units of Warriors 2x20 Gargoyles; 5 Shrikes w/ rending, toxin, adrenal, hooks; 2x2 Dakkafexes and if points, 3 Biovores? This seems to be what I've had the most fun running in the past but dunno if they will work in the new meta/codex lol.

Jesus Christ changed my life, He can do the same for you!
That list could work, it has 4 synapse points, decent amount of troops and tank busters. May be lacking in psykers though. I suspect the more competitive 1850 lists will bring two flyrants . You can probably also expect the occasional 40 to 60 infiltrating gene stealers list, conga lining back to multiple venomthrope broods and enough psykers to reliably generate one if not two catalyst powers. This will give a lot of lists a big headache, particularly if nids get first turn (though probably won't be consistently competitive).
Although the list used in this batrep wasn't good, as reecius stated, they had only had the dex for a short time. The rep against the orks is far more worrying, as the list was more suited to the new dex.
I'm currently play testing different ideas, but what seems to work for 1850 is as follows:
2 x Dakka flyrants
1 venomthrope
1 venomthrope
2 zoanthropes
1 troop tervy
30 gants
3 warriors (1 with barbed strangler)
3 warriors (1 with barbed strangler)
18 gargoyles
18 gargoyles
1 crone
3 biovores
3 biovores
Exocrine
This gives you 6 points of synapse, 4 troops with the ability to pump out at least one more, multiple early threats and the ability to lay down a barrage of pinning weapons as you close (great against tau!). You also get 6 rolls to try and get one or more catalyst, have two venomthropes your enemy needs to get rid of (keep them out of Los, use your tervy if needed) and your crone has target priority protection (as your flyrants are likely to be targeted first).
The list needs more play testing, but seems reasonable so far.
