I need some help with a project in planning. I want to create a fluffy CSM army that is about a Sorcerer creating artificial soldiers using mechanized PA and inserting Daemons into them to give it "life". His reasons for doing this is so that if his creations can work perfectly then he can try to save the Thousand Sons that turned to dust and give them back their conscience. To that end the Sorcerer is "enlisting" help from a Warpsmith and his small band of IW to supply him with the equipment for his plans, of course the Warpsmith has plans of his own for those mechanical soldiers.

That is basically what the fluff will be about, but the problem I'm having is coming up with a name for the group/Warband that doesn't sound cheesy like "Iron Sons" or "Iron/Steel Angels". Any suggestions that the members of Dakkadakka are willing to share?

why not try something like "Iron Faith" seems like alot of the basic principles of this particular war band are based on hope and rumors the main psyker would be chasing to restore the thousand sons. just my thoughts.

Sometimes your army can be named somewhere down the line. In my case, I made a Space Marine army that where a new chapter formed from the Crimson Fists. I like green but did not want to do one of the green armies already made. So my green Crimson Fist were named the Green Marines. It was about a year later that one of my squads took on a Havok squad the ripped into it with 4 heavy bolter. I saved every wound... He called my army the Lucky Leprechauns, and it stuck.

The name of my CSM warband is 'The Host of the Broken Swords' because when they loyal to the Imperium they were known as the 'Iron Swords' chapter. Thus when they defected to Chaos they were technically 'broken'.

Manchurian apostles?

Connotations of mind altered followers waiting for the right moment to emerge.

Name has a double entendre aswell, for the warpsmith having an alternative agenda.

Well there's a whole resurrection / redemption motif in there, so why not go with something based on that. The Resurectioners, The Sons of Redemption, The Lazarines.

I hope that helps. The best names are those that come from what they actually are or are about.

That's a good name. I mean, that's a really good name.

@Knas Ser (sorry, haven't figured out multi-quoting yet)

Lazarines? That's genius! Now I want to steal the OP's idea just so I can use that name.

Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)

If one option has the addendum "because why the hell not?" then that is always the option you should choose.

Ooh, The Pale Host. I like that. It feels somehow quietly sinister. Nice.

And for less serious ones, I get a chuckle out of The Knights of Swagdonia.

lol, I have no problem if you want to use my idea. Actually, someone pointed out to me that there is already a guy similar in concept to my Sorcerer. My 'original character' wasn't so original after all, haha.

Got a idea for a dual name, fractum virtútum to mean in Latin (high gothic) broken hosts. I know high gothic isn't 100% Latin but it can be changed to something that sounds better I guess, just a contribution

Use one of the random chapter/warband name generators until you get something good, it's what I normally do.

Haha, when did this thread come back? Well, regarding the naming process I decided to go with Vulgar's "Warpforged" name because of how it sounds like a good balance between the Iron Warriors' theme and Thousand Sons' theme. And because of the Iron Warriors really dominating the Warband since the Thousand Son Sorcerers came to them for help I wanted to stick more closely towards the Iron Warriors' name theme.
