I want to paint some chaos marines to go with my orks. I was wondering if anyone out there had and knowledge of what legion would use both orks and cultists.

Stikk bommas are special among ork society for one reason - They know when you pull the pin out of a stikk bomb you throw the bomb not the pin!

They hate xenos just as much if not more than the Imperials.

Chaos and Orks have no real love for each other.

BUT! I don't think it's at all outside the realm of plausibility for a particularly crafty warband to basically use the orks and manipulate them into fighting their battles for them, ala the Eldar's method of fighting the Tyranids in Dawn of War 2.

As well, a crafty warband could also hire the Blood Axes, since they're literally mercenaries who will fight for anyone for money. I could see the Alpha Legion or another strategic warband using their services.

let's face it, when you need some "useful idiots" to attack something for you Orks are a great "to go guy" well until it goes wrong and the orks prove smarter then expected

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Sorry to be that guy....

The group of orks beleive they are chaos so much that the marines are fooled into thinking that the Orks are infact chaos marines and are treated as such. Weither this is crafty ork plotting or general beleif on the orks part we will never know. Unless the orks think we know...

Wasn't there a case where a group of orks accidentally began worshiping nurgle under the impression that it was Gork? So wouldn't it then be possible that a chaos lord from the Death Guard join forces with them? Be all like, "Yo dawg, we both worship Nur... Gork! Let's go show the galaxy Papa Nur... Gork's lov... errrr, desire to krump everyone!"

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

Khorne Culists and Orks would get along very well with a common enemy.

From what I know, there were cases of Plague Orks and Khornate Orks in the (older) fluff, so Death Guard and World Eaters respectively. Alpha Legion would probably find a way to exploit them as well.

Not all Chaos marines are from a traitor legion. You could have a recently fallen chapter who have worked out that the best way to get things done is to drown the enemy in their pet ork warband before dropping in to finish the job. The orks tolerate this because it gets them into good fights.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

If you consider fluff wise, the chaos forces use lots of distractions to cover their true purpose. If I remember correctly Chaos incited Orks to attack the imperial forces while searching for their artefacts.

So the orks may prove useful for a vanguard assault before the actual Chaos forces decide to mop up what's left. Don't know if you see it that way but it seems a possibility to me.

Basically this.

Then the warboss kills your chaos lord and sorcerer for laughs and goes on a massive WAAAGH! the likes of which have never been seen in that subsector

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Alpha Legion would be my default go-to for this kind of operation. The Waaaghboss is probably actually Alpharius anyway, as are half the Ork Boyz,

Certain cells of the Thousand Sons might be able to accomplish this through sorcerous means.

Blood Axes will fight for anyone who can pay them.

World Eaters might enjoy the brutality of the Ork in combat, and may have attracted a few with their combat prowess. While it's rare, Orks *do* fall to Chaos now and then.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Nurgle orks are in 6th edition chaos codex, with a chaos primarch actually doing something! But to the OP, I would say that the marines could be using the orks, you know, keep there distance off the field of battle, but revel in the slaughter all the same.
