Subject: Regeneration Biomorph for new Nids, Worth it or Waste of Points?

Hey guys, me and my brother are looking at combining (to save money partly) to construct a Tyranid army out of the new book. While browsing we stumbled across the Regeneration Biomorph which is appears to be awesome, 4+ get a wound back, a 50% chance to regain a wound. However the points cost is a staggering 30pts. making me wonder, is it even worth taking on all your MC's or just on your Warlord, Tervigons and such? What do you guys think?
|
19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

A little number crunching can let you figure out points-per-wound on MCs, and then you can decide yourself if it's a worthwhile investment versus buying another MC.
Ex. - I'd buy it all day on Tervigons and Tyrannofexes, but not on Carnifexes.

Depends how much what is essentially a 4+ IWND is worth to you.

Is it a 4+ on one die or, do you roll a die for every wound? Multiple rolls per model would make it obvious. Otherwise id say only for your warlord. Gotta keep him alive to deny your opponents the VPs.

1 roll, my problem with it is that if its missing a wound already chances are its being focused and GL keeping it alive anyway

My view is that Regeneration only encourages my opponent to focus down my MCs, which is exactly the opposite of what I want them to do. The only time I would use it is on a big durable death star like a Hive Tyrant and Guard retinue.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.
"Long ago in a distant land, I, M'kar, the shape-shifting Master of Chaos, unleashed an unspeakable evil! But a foolish Grey Knight warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forth to oppose me. Before the final blow was struck, I tore open a portal in space and flung him into the Warp, where my evil is law! Now the fool seeks to return to real-space, and undo the evil that is Chaos!" |

For me, it is simply too expensive in general. If you only have it on 1 creature, then that will be focused on and killed quickly. If you have it on multiples it gets very expensive, very quickly.

As like in the last codex, giving wound regeneration to models with the most wounds or strategic importance is probably your most cost effective use, such as on Tervigons or something important like Hive Tyrants.

Put it on models with 6 wounds or on a flyrant, things that are hard to put down.
Regneration is better in small games. In bigger games the chances of killing a whole MC in one turn increases.

As already stated, I would only put it on a tervigon or T.fex--I don't even know if it would work with a flyrant. If the flyrant gets grounded early you won't geta chance to use it. I would say 6 wounds or bust.

I put it on a Trygon Prime. We'll see how that goes.

Tyrants autopassing Look Out Sir make it super viable on them when with Guard...otherwise your Tyrannofex is the only MC I would put it on...unless you're playing around with A Prime and Carnifex squad and handing off wounds between the Prime and Carnifex with the regen morph.

I put it on my Flyrant - who is also my Warlord - sometimes, but never on anything else. The fact I want to keep my warlord alive to deny VP and the fact that a FMC is harder to hit (so one wound makes more difference) means, in my opinion, it's worth the 30pts in this instance.
Don't go handing it out willy-nilly though, otherwise you'll end up spending a ton of points that could have been used on another MC...
