To all you people who've dealt with this issue before, would cutting the tab off of the model and gluing it to the base by its itty bitty foot create a strong enough hold to be viable? Or do any of you know of a better solution?

It'll work just fine. The tab isn't necessary, it's just a convenience thing. If it worries you, you can also always drill a hole in the feet and pin it to the cork.
For Termagants you could probably just glue them and they'd be fine. The Hormagaunt on the other hand has a tiny attachment point, I'd definitely pin it.
