Hi guys just slapping my Tyranid fleet up for judging. The Carnifex was the first tyranid model I painted and I think he came out pretty well. Let me know what you think.

They need a wash and more noticeable highlights. The colours are well developed though, by that I mean the basecoat is not showing through. I really like the carnifex.

On the pyrovore however, the red is out of place. It makes the model too busy and highly contrasts against the blue claws. The blue works really well with the skin tones and I would stick with that for the contrast. I don't know if you've read about colour theory, but I'll post a link for you here along with a colour wheel. Hopefully it will help you make better decisions on your choice of skin tones and highlights:
http://www.tigercolor.com/color-lab/color-theory/color-theory-intro.htm

The reason your blue works well with the skin tone is that it's a cool colour against a warm colour (the skin also visually reminds the user of orange, so they're not true complimentary colours with the tones you've selected but they work). The red however, is completely out of place which creates a negative response to the viewer because they are conflicted where to follow with their eyes.

Personally, if I did anything I would replace the blue and red with green and keep the skin as it is to create what's known as an analogous colour scheme - very common in nature (as you might expect on a tyranid, basically a giant arthropod), and excellent from a painters perspective. A little yellow wouldn't hurt either, perhaps for the eyes/tongue/muscle.

p.s. - good job on removing mould lines! +1

I agree that they need a wash. I am loving the colour scheme though. The flesh and bone work very, very well together! I love the carapace with the little stripes. Looking forward to more!

Some really nice colours, but I don't think it fits with the snowy bases (they're meant to adapt and evolve, are they not?). Aside from this, they could probably do with a better highlight.

YOUR PICTURES ARE FUZZY - Sort it out because it really annoys me when I have to squint to pick out detail on models x3

the flesh needs a wash. As it is now, there's not much contrast between the carapace and the skin. A red wash followed by highlights of the the original flesh tone might do the trick.

I'd agree the flesh needs a wash, but only a light one in the recesses. Otherwise it looks great.

Um, those look washed to me. Washes alone won't make the model pop, he needs to shade the low light and highlight the top, then wash and add zenith highlights.

They are a nice standard as is however.

You got exelent painting skills but I think the colours are not so good. They are very bland with neather a sharp spot colour, a bright colour or a dark colorur. Your pallet hovers around the middel.

You would need juuust a little something and it will be good.

Anyways, I really like the paintjob you gave em. It's really smooth and nice looking, and the colour scheme is pretty nice too, like they are in desert camouflage or something.

Hah I have the Pyrovore mainly because I thought it was a good looking model. I think it looks a lot better than the Biovore. Thanks for the good comments guys.

I'm gonna disagree on the complaints about the skin color. It works really well if you're going for that really unsettling close-to-human-skin-but-not-quite feeling. It's gross in the same way a rat tail or naked mole rat is gross. Its like a monster was covered in human flesh. It's really unsettling to see on Tyranids and way ups their gross out factor. You could take it to 11 with some gross slime effects and stuff as well!

Thanks thats the look I was going for. I'm going to go back to these and apply some of the new Nurgles rot paint to a few points on them.
