How many people here would still play it's games? My group still plays Warmaster, Epic, and BFG and we have come up with some house rules we test out for units we don't think had rules to fit their fluff. Another advantage for those that continue to play these games is if you ignore the over priced EBAY stuff and check around your FLGS you can find people willing to let their stuff go in a trade that can be extremely advantageous for both sides. A good example of this is a trade I did a while back where I got about 10 titans of various sizes, along with three full 3,000 point armies of Eldar, Marines, and Tyranids that included all options available for about 100 dollars. He just had them taking up room at his place and didn't want to bother with EBAY, and I felt like boosting the armies I already had.
I wonder if the same would be possible for 40K and Warhammer.

I'll play it for awhile before moving on to Infinity or Warmachine. I'll definitely keep my collection. Maybe make some homebrewed rules to use warhammer models in infinity.

I'd rejoice, and then probably spend the next 8 months planning with my closest wargamer buddy on our own version of Warhammer.
Then I'd be curiously optomistic whoever snatches up the IP will take their time coming up with a new rules system that's fair and fun as written for all comers, at both the house and tournament levels.

We all know that even if GW crashes and burns someone will buy their IP. Surely others in the industry recognize the IP is highly profitable even if GW bites the bucket.

I'd still play the GW games, I'll just homebrew stuff a lot so I don't get bored of it.

Painlord Titan Princeps of Slaanesh

Hey a year or two break in new releases while another company picks up the IP slack would give me time to catch up on my painting!
Like others said, I'm sure someone else would pick it up. I would start playing more warmachine and enjoy a lot of board games with my local gaming crew. If it looked like the company and the lore really truly went the way of the dodo, I would keep my more impressive models (titans, special characters, awesome conversions) and then see if I could sell off most of the rank and file soldiers to anyone who was still doing home brew things after say 5 years.

1. Snap up my planned SM army in the inevitable clearance sale.
2. paint all my stuff and then put it away.
3. play Warmachine/FOW until someone picks up the IP.

I'd hope that Hasbro buys the 40k IP and see what it does with it.
Because we deserve IDW 40k comics and Crossovers with Transformers.

I would continue playing 40k, and as there wouldn't be anymore models to buy for 40k, I would have more money to exand my glorious KV-tank army for FoW.

I'm not yet convinced GW is doomed. However should it occur I would continue playing with a few friends and finish any remaining models.
Along the lines of what others have said I'd like to see GW get bought out one way or another. It's my hope that this would lead to price drops
which would both bring in new players and allow us existing ones to add more stuff at a reasonable price.

I'd just keep playing Infinity and any other games I pick up.
While I'd lament the passing of GW who gave me a lot of joy growing up, what they've become is not something I enjoy. They're also not the only fish in the pond anymore, with lots of games gaining popularity.

Was there not just a thread on this like 2 days ago?
Nevertheless I would probably go hunting for uber deals like the one you said.....if I could pick up that many points in models for $100 I would be pretty happy.
I just play at my house so I don't need to have new editions every few years...same edition is fine with me.

I know exactly what I would do if GW closed tomorrow, I'd head down to my local club with my dystopian wars, X wing, Dropzone commander and Infinity and start showing people better (imo) games.
Those people are so close minded I am not sure anything else would get them to try looking beyond GW.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |
