Hello all,

It's been a while since I've posted in the army list forum, and an even longer time since it was me asking for Guard advice rather than the other way around.

Here are two lists, built around the notion that I really haven't a clue what I'm doing and I'm just trying stuff out. What problems do you foresee, and which one is better/worse? Thank you:

Firestorm Redoubt
2x Quad Icarus Cannons, 1x Icarus Lascannon, Magos Machine Spirit

Machine Spirit lets the Quad Icarus guns fire at BS3 (and the single Icarus if I put it on the Redoubt). The extra Icarus is just 'cause I had 35 points spare. Heavy Weapon team goes inside the Redoubt, using its big fire port to shoot all three cannons.

So... thoughts/suggestions/death threats?

Seems pretty good to me; both lists.

While I'm not 100% familiar with the firestorm redoubt, given the guns on it, I would say that would be the better choice of the two. (Assuming those guns have good LOS, so can shoot at ground units easily too).

With that and things like the manticores I would definitely get lascannon rather than autocannon on the infantry, as I find lascannon much better and more useful, and you have enough stuff for light armour.

Griffons I am not sold on, especially when used as a battery. Remember the barrage rules, so if the first one hits, the second actually is less likely to hit than if it were firing alone. For this reason I would drop them both for a third manticore, as they are better in almost all circumstances.

Why the two valkyries as well as the vendettas? I'm not seeing the need here, as manticores provide plenty of anti-infantry, and the vets can go in the vendettas. They are good, sure, but I'm not sold on them in this list.

I also think you may be a little light on troops; certainly you could find yourself struggling to hold/contest more than one objective if your opponent concentrates a bit on them. I would be very tempted to drop one of the valkyries in exchange for a third melta-vet squad to go in the other.

Hope this is useful.

I would go 2 units of 2 vendettas and no valkyries because the extra AT is nice while some extra strength 4 ap 6 is kinda meh.

As for the rest seems fine, I would swap out last HS option for another maticore or a collosus.

I only have two Vendettas, as it happens.

Ok, List of Redemption (take 2!):

CCS (Regimental Standard, Astropath, Master of Ordnance)

PCS (4 Flamers)
Infantry Squad (Autocannon)
Infantry Squad (Autocannon)

PCS (Heavy Bolter)
Infantry Squad (Autocannon)
Infantry Squad (Autocannon)
Infantry Squad (Autocannon)

Veterans (3 Meltas)
Veterans (3 Meltas)

Valk (Multi-Laser, 2x Heavy Bolter, 2x Rocket Pods)
Vendetta (3x TL-Lascannon, 2x Heavy Bolter)
Vendetta (3x TL-Lascannon, 2x Heavy Bolter)

Ordnance Battery (2 Griffons)
Manticore
Manticore

Fortress of Redemption (Krakstorm upgrade)

I feel better about having a second platoon. The Heavy Bolter in the PCS is just because I had 5 points left over and couldn't get another Autocannon. The Fortress of Redemption is not only a nice big obnoxious piece of terrain, but I can hide a lot of artillery behind it.
