Or are they just some sub-category of infantry?

I want to know because I'm looking at attack bikes and thinking they would be really nice with IWND...

Bikes are bikes. Nothing else. They are closer to infantry than to vehicles (having wounds and Toughness values for example.)

Bikes are their own special unit type. Just think about the differences between motorcycles (Bikes) and cars (Vehicles).

Unit types are found in the BRB on pages 44-49.

Vehicles are found on page70-87.

You look at the unit type listed in the unit entry to figure out what rules to use. Vehicles always say Vehicle, then give you any of its modifying rules(Tank, Open-topped, Flyer, Heavy, Skimmer, Transport, fast)

Well see the unit entry for Attack Bikes lists them as "Bikes" which takes one back to the Unit Types section, which doesn't really say much about what exactly you ought to classify them as... kind of a common theme with GW. Refer to this section, then use your own judgement and if anyone questions it flip a coin to see who is right. Kind of annoying...

I just want to know if I can use IH Chapter Tactics on them, specifically the one where it grants Vehicles and Characters the It Will Not Die special rule.

Technically yes, Bikes are not listed under the Vehicles section but if you take a look at Artillery, that is technically not a vehicle, but it's listed under Unit Types and Artillery is definitely not a form of infantry.

Accuse me of looking for technical advantages but if the rules allow me to do a certain thing then I want to know about it so I can make us of it. Either way I'm still gonna use the Attack Bikes whether they would get IWND or not. Besides they still get FNP thanks to CT anyways.

So ruling is: Attack Bikes are a type of mechanized infantry and would only get FnP from Iron Hands Chapter Tactics?

Okay, I see what you're doing and I'm not playing along.

There is really no way around it they are "Bikes" unit type it has its own rules. No armor value, wounds and an armor save. You follow all those rules no other way to play it

The basic rules cover infantry. The 'Unit Types' section introduces a bunch of different unit types. These unit types aren't classed as 'infantry' or 'vehicles'... they're classed as their own unit types, which share some rules with infantry, and have a bunch of their own special rules.

Hence my comment. The Bikes section doesn't tell you what to class them as because their classification is applied by their Unit Type. They aren't classed as infantry, or vehicles... they're classed as bikes.

It's that simple.

Units with the classification of Bikes are not vehicle. The sgt in a bike squad (but as attack bikes do not have a sgt, they do not qualify) would be a character however.. Period.

For whatever reason, you're making this much harder than it has to be. Even though you seem to be having difficulty understanding the unit type section, maybe keep flipping and see where the rulebook describes what kinds of models are considered vehicles, y'know, like having armor values and facings instead of wounds.

I think you'd rather have the FNP over IWND tbh, im assuming attack bikes have 2 wounds, and even then you need a 5 up to get the wound back. Bikes are Bikes.

Just reiterating my original thought of "motorcycles are a type of vehicle" and didn't want to get into the argument again. That's what I meant by not playing along. I have it in my head how the rule works and that all I need. Bikes are a form of "mechanized infantry" and not considered vehicles for the purposes of defining rules in gameplay. That's all I needed. If I had been satisfied by flipping through the rulebook I'd hardly have had a reason to ask here now would I?

I'm just looking at my codex and asking questions. So sue me. Maybe one day I'll have someone try to roll IWND on an Attack Bike on me and now I'll know what to say instead of floundering through this mess of a rule book and trying to argue about which page validates what.

I'm confused by your confusion?
He's saying he now knows what part of the rules to reference if someone tries to pass off bikes as Vehicles (Vehicles gain IWND with the Iron Hands Chapter Tactics).
