Hi there

I have started regularly running a Buff commander (yeah yeah, I know, I'm probably not the only one ) and wanted to paint up a new commander to show of that upgrade.

Was thinking something along the lines of Eldar Crystal weapons or diamond or anything like that.

But does anyone have a good guide for doing a whole model in that kind of paint scheme? Or some pictures of a model done like that? Tried googling a bit, but it didn't really give anything that good.

Cheers

Diamond would just be translucent painting techniques done in turquoise-blue.

And what do you mean by "buff commander"?

He is using a Tau Commander that Buffs for 40k.

Iridium isnt really all that transparent. so your just looking to do a nice shiny metallic.

Though even then im pretty sure the Tau would still paint over it.

Id go with crystal maze's post though.

I think that non metallic metal are really tough to do. BUT if you want to you might want to look at this article:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Colour_Theory%2C_light_and_Shade

Just shows how you should highlight to achieve the effect there is an example of chrome painting NMM at the bottom.
You will have to use varying shades of grey then work your way up to super light grey and some white and light whitish blue.

Also you have to think of what the armour would be reflecting which again is hard to do. Best of luck!

I looks like you want some kind of TMM+ glaze technique, since iridium looks like transparent sliver to me.

Wouldn't it just be white with a light blue wash and quite a bit of clearcoat?

A member of the platinum group metals, iridium is white, resembling platinum, but with a slight yellowish cast.

A Buff Commander, or Buffmander, is a Tau Battlesuit command who buffs other units.
Not to be confused with a Salamander, who Sallies, or a Liftmander, who lifts

As for painting, OP, I would echo ideas at NMM and blue/chrome palette. There is also the option of saying the Tau painted over it for camo, which, frankly, is what the Tau would do.
