If you are using Stormtalons, do you have any tips? Is the TL-Lascannon upgrade worth it or should I take the Skyhammer Missile Launcher?

Should I stick to mowing down infantry with its BS5 or do you also use it for light vehicle and flyer hunting?

How to best maneuvre it? Hug table edge or drop in dead centre?

Cheers

My friend runs sky hammer and if thees no juicy flyers to hit hell mow down infantry with it, he tends to also keep it on the flanks.

I love me some skyhammer talons. I usually don't play AV 11 opponents, so if it's people with boats of wet cardboard (DE) then i go ahead and pop boats with it, if people brought AV 12/13 stuff, then i usually send the talon off to mow down heavy infantry where the STR 6/7 weapons really help over using bolters, and let my lascannon devs deal with the enemy Armour.
As for positioning, I usually try to come in along a side for as many turns on the board as possible without needing hover, or, if there is a very specific something that needs skyhammering, i'll head for that, as long as it isn't going to put me in a dumb spot next turn with no targets.

Edit: Enemy Flyers are also fair game for the talons.

^^ this guy knows what's up. Skyhammer always. It makes the stormtalon one of the most versitile units in the SM dex. Lascannons make the talon a split personality. Xenos HATE skyhammer talons. 7 BS5 shots that ignore most armor, 4 that rend. For that same reason its the bane of enemy fliers as well. Never needing more than a 5 to pin with skyhammers and likely glancing off the remaining hull points with the TL AC. Let your devvies or preds deal with armor.

For myself I field these combos.

3 Stormtalons w/AC and SH missiles. 1 Storm Talon takes a TL LC.

I find it still gets off a lot of shooting at soft targets and the one LC is either to start softening a target or to finish it off. I'll only ever go into hover mode unless absolutely necessary.

or

2 Stormtalons with sky hammer and a Vendetta ally. Essentially fills the sames role as above but a bit more resiliant and the enemy anti air tends to ignore the stormtalons in favour of the vendetta. A stormraven could be used as well but is much pricier thana vendetta.

If I take 2 Stormtalons it's all skyhammer.

Try and avoid taking only one stormtalon. It will go down. In fact expect your stormtalons to go down. By taking as many as you can you help with that blitzkrieg rapid shock attack you are trying to achieve and you'll spread your enemy's AA a bit more.

One skyhammer talon here.

IMHO the other options are not worth the points. Not that they can’t get the job done, and there have been times where I wished I had the LCs. But bang-for-buck, take the skyhammers.

Primary role is air superiority. Secondary role is ground support, and any target of opportunity is fair game. The TLAsC skyhammer combo is optimized for light vehicle killing, but with 7 BS5 S6&7 shots hitting guys on the ground you can put the hurt on squads.

Tactically, don’t forget the chin gun is 360. Sometimes you can swing around and hit soft rear armor. Generally at the expense of the missiles, but it’s worth it sometimes.

You are relying on the flyer rules to keep you safe. Be careful who can draw a bead on you. Massed fire can hurt, but if most of your opponent’s army is snap firing to bring you down, the rest of your troops just got a free pass to live. For the most part, I fly my talon where he wants to be and accept any incoming fire as part of the risk. If you do have the option to keep out of LOS from skyfire units, take advantage of it.

As pointed above, skyhammer and nothing else.
Volume of shots works wonders.

As somebody mentioned, the 360 degree arc on the assault cannon is useful for hitting rear armor. Specifically, it's worth sacrificing the missiles if you're facing an AV 12/12/10 flyer like the heldrake or vendetta and can get behind it.
