I'm trying to put together a competitive iyanden army at 1500 points, whilst keeping it themed. I'm not sure it's do-able though?

I'm currently torn between a list that has 4 squads of Wraithguard, 2 with scythes, 2 with cannons all mounted in serpents with TL SL, SC & HF, or a list with 2 squads of guard in serpents with two wraith knights. I'm a little concerned that a single wraith knight would fall too easily, and that two severely ruin my scoring chances as I'll only have 2 scoring units! I'm contemplating dropping the theme of pure wraith to make it competative, but I really don't want to. Thoughts dakka?

I would go 2 wraith guard, with d scythes in serpents, with 2 wraith knights, and then jet bikes or rangers for objective scoring.

Dang, that's what i'm trying as well.. You need AA most importantly so fit those in first after that wraithguard with cannons no d scythes even though they are awesome because the extra range is useful also maybe take 3 WL with duel SL for anti hoard and for HQ take a mantel seer and a few spiritseers.

Don't take any serpents because they will eat up to many points, just start as far up as you can and if you get get into area terrain all the better, also the voice of twilight power is good so you can move run re roll run if needed and then shoot 12" giving you a longer threat range, also if you want to take a WK, take two.

I basically disagree with almost everything above. Yes sir can be a problem, but he should have serpents so no big deal. On the same note serpents should be auto include in any competitive iyanden list. They give mobility, protection, and fire power that the wraith guard lack. Leave the wraith guard with d scythes, he already has enough anti tank with 2 wraith knights, 3 lance walkers ( which I would recommend instead of scatter walkers) and wave serpents.the d scythes are just amazing at killing anything that's not a one model unit, and even then it does decent. A mantle seer would be really nice though, to guide lance walkers and a wraith knight.

I'm thinking that 3 BL,BL walkers would allow me the wraith forge stone on the spiritseer!

Lastly I could take 4 squads of rangers, or 2 squads of 10? It gives me a 4+ to wound against monsterous creatures. That means serpents for anti infantry/light armour/air, scythes for anti infantry, knights for heavy armour and rangers for MC's.

With extra points I would get 2 3 manjet bike squads for cheap late game scoring, then 2 bl bl walkers. Scoring its important.

ok, so with the spare 240 points, 2 walkers and 2x3 bikes? Cannons at all?

I don't know. I like the shuriken cannons. I might go for the 20 rangers anyway. Much better for the onslaught of MC's!

That works to, but I wouldn't go for that many though. Rangers damage out put is minimal. If I use mine there role is to score objectives, and not much else. Maybe go for 3 ranger squads and 2 shadow weavers.

Except there are 2 expensive ass wraith guard units that normally army taken and 2 wraith knights, along with 0 aspect warriors.

Except it doesn't, when there's no dire avengers, no Farseer, no support batteries, no jetbikes, no swooping, no warp spiders and no fragons! Lunatic.

I was thinking about a third wraithknight for the points, but I'm concerned that that may be excessive and not very effective. Otherwise I could take 5 avengers in a third serpent. And yes, I realise the irony of that suggestion after my last paragraph.

You need scoring. You could whip then bad, and they have only one tactical marine left on an objective and they'll at least tie, possibly win, because your wraith guard are all the way up field and far from objectives. Get some rangers or jet bikes for cheap scoring.

Would you take rangers over 5 avengers in a serpent?

I would take avengers in a serpnt but only if your cool with kind of breaking the theme

I am ok with breaking the theme. I want to be as themed as possible, but I don't want to take this to tourneys with some degree of success?

But I cant get the rangers in too? I can take a kitted out wraithlord and 5 rangers too for theme...but I do like the idea of a third serpent!

I wouldn't go for the wraith Lord, to expensive for the cost.

Damage out put to damage out put, war walkers are double as good and cheaper by 20 points.
Wraith Lord is better at surviving but I would much rather have the war walkers.
