Jealous that Horus is Warmaster

just got an Amera mouldings Amphitheatre, and its just crying out for a statue or something in the center of it:
...and having just started a couple of Thousands Sons squads, i thought an obelisk would be perfect for it, but i'm having trouble finding any models - anyone got any ideas?
(been searching for things like 'warhammer obelisk' but just get lots of necron related stuff, obviously)

I typed 'Egyptian Obelisk Souvenir' into Google and got a ton of obelisks that will look to scale, in the 6 to 8 inch height range.

good shout on the 'souvenir' thing - I guess i was coming at it from a 'looking for a model kit of an obelisk' point of view, rather than a 'find an obelisk shaped thing that's the right size'
cheers for all the replies tho

found this one, which is not exactly what i had in mind, i think might look cool
(and is actually an unpainted resin model, rather than a souvenir)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DETAILED-STONE-OBELISK-/250488497810?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item3a52472692
only thing is that its nearly 10 quid with postage, and the whole ampitheatre only cost 6!
gonna keep looking, but its a possibility

Check secret weapons miniatures. They have an obilisk in their terrain collection. I have one and it's very nice.

that's quite a cool model, but not sure it fits with the old, weathered look of the Amphitheatre. thanks for the suggestion though

Check games workshops arcane ruins kit.
You can file the skulls off.
Is that a bit too small?

I picked up a couple while in Egypt & they were dirt cheap - ask around your friends & family to see if anyone's planning a trip out there & get them to pick some up for you. 10 to 1 part of their trip will involve a visit to the local tourist market / souk.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!! |

Go to anywhere selling fish tanks and there should be millions of them for £5 upwards.

GW Arcane ruins looks perfect, but as mentioned above, I don't really want to spend 18quid just to get one obelisk
The fish tank thing is genius, will be checking that out
Someone else jus suggested that a roman column would suit it better (prob right, but my 1000sons demand Egyptian things!), and suggested looking at the supports they use between tiers of a wedding cake - cheap plastic usually apparently - love the sideways thinking people have on this -I just automatically look for someone casting an item in resin!

I would say to google "papercraft obelisk"
It'll give you some free downloads of a blank obelisk shape. You could then either freehand or use the computer to add background, details, etc. Print and assemble.
I've done a number of papercraft terrain pieces. As long as you use decent weight cardstock, and clean the edges, it looks great (and if it gets damaged, print another).

You could always offset the cost by chucking the other bits on ebay?
Someone is trying to sell what looks to be the whole sprue minus the obelisk for £17.49 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Warhammer-Arcane-Ruins-Scenery-Bits-Skulls-Chaos-Diorama-Job-Lot-New-Condition-/321267908040?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item4acd0f3dc8
It'd be worth watching to see how well it sells.

good find!
however they want more than the cost of the model for postage! bugger that.
as for the fish tank idea - I haven't been able to find any obelisk ornaments - loads of greek/roman columns, but nothing egyptian :-(
so in frustration, i bought some cheap plastic roman columns that were designed for holding wedding cake tiers (as mentioned above) - they'll do for now, but would still rather have an obelisk, so will keep looking...

Apart from the hieroglyphs an obelisk is a fairly simple geometric form that you could create with plasticard etc. Hieroglyphs are easy to make in bas relief with thin plasticard. Egyptian stuff is normally standard relief, of course, but that probably doesn't matter.

already tried this - but there's no obelisks on there.
(I've got amazon prime, so generally try to find things on amazon before i look anywhere else)

cant find anyone selling it in the uk, and dont fancy paying to get it shipped from the states - as mentioned above, the amphitheatre only cost £6 (less than $10), so dont really want to spend more than that on a little obelisk to go with it!
thanks for the suggestions tho guys

if anyones interested - here is a pic of the painted Amphitheatre, with the stand-in wedding-cake roman column, which has a convenient hole in the top EXACTLY the size of gw round base - convenient!
(apologies for the quality of the pic - first attempt at using the light tent i got at xmas, not quite got the hang of it yet!)
a few more pics here if anyone's interested: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-77206-39355_Amera%20Mouldings%20Amphitheatre.html
in obelisk related news, i gave up on resin/plastic models and started looking at papercraft stuff, and found this:
http://urgat.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/obelisk-of-dawn.html
which looks perfect, but having printed it out, looks pretty complex to construct(!),
but at least thats the good thing about papercraft - if you muck it up, you can just print out another one, eh?
will update again if/when its finally completed.
