I have a 3.5k worth of Tyranids army and plan on starting a new army but don't know what to build.

Personally I'm not much of a marines fans so leaving the choice to Chaos Deamon, Dark Eldar, Elar, Orks, Necrons and Tau.

Wish to seek for some profession advise about pros and cons of these armies to decide which to build as my secondary army.

Your help will be appreciate, thank you and have a nice day.

Happy wargaming =)

I would suggest Necrons personally:

Lot's of strong playstyles available and neat options.
Very different from nids so you get some variety when you want it.
Easy and quick to paint so you're not waiting around too long.

Forgot Guard who are getting a new dex in March.

If you want a different play style and awesome models Necrons or Eldar.

If you want to piss of each and every one of your opponents, go Tau.

If you like the idea of S&M space pirates, DE.

Armor heavy guard are worth consideration as well.

Lots of my friends suggested Taudar (Tau + Eldar), so that I can saperate them into two different army in the future if I wish to build another.

Seeing Tau and Eldar dominating current edition, I'm afraid that they will get nerf badly in the next edition like Tyranids, making me difficult to bring them to tournament play as it's not so competitive anymore.

Personally I'm a fun game type of player but my friendly group made a chart to record all our win and lose every month, the loser will have to do something stupid like 'jackass' in the public.

Yea, we're crazy enough to accept the challenge so I wish to play something that wouldn't mess up my score badly.

Well, it's gonna be a WHILE before Tau or Eldar gets hit with any kind of official GW nerf. Like...years. It would require an edition change where overwatch becomes crappy, glancing hits hurt, and walkers that are disguised as monstrous creatures get the aids somehow.

Just embrace the dark side, grab the broken books, and never see the bottom of that win/loss chart again.

$600 is A LOT of money to drop to simply not lose a bet. After the bet is over, is he going to have fun, or is he going to hate the fact that he blew a months rent and utilities worth of dough on an army that nobody wants to play?

Let me put it this way, even if money isn't an issue, everybody respects a good general. Nobody thinks highly of someone who counts on a gorgonzola codex to do the heavy lifting.

CHAOS!

The codex is very random with the warp storm table and all the rewards pyskic abilities and such being random. Random is fun!

There are some units in the dex that are game breaking (Screamer stars, belakor, fateweaver, daemon prince spam(fly circuses))

Then there are some units that never see the light of day, even in fun lists (Blue scribes, heralds of khorne, changling)

There are not many good ways to play them but the ones there are kick ass and take names. Pick a god, or dont, and make something that is yours! Take big gribbly bad guys!

What play style do you want? That should be the first question.

I like CSM, as mentioned above.

Orks are very fun, and will put smiles on everyone’s faces when they are played. Some of my gamming buddies have suggested an ork and tau combo for long range firepower and the orks for up close crumpin.

It's all about what you want to play.

Might need a bit more info....but, my advice is usually the same;

pick the one that has either -
* the models you like the most, you think you would have fun painting and playing with.

* the fluff you like the best, and would add to your enjoyment of the game, if that is your thing.

I play both tau and nids and can say, the contrasting play styles can be a lot of fun.
