Hello,

I'm new to the hobby and have taken the initial plunge on the starter box, codex, paints, etc. I've been spending some time at the local shop watching games enough to where I'm now comfortable. I have yet to play a game, but I'm interested in feedback on building a good army from the start. Go easy if I make mistakes and I appreciate any feedback.

I still need to order Belial and the attack bike so I can still change things around. I also can rearrange the Knights to a command squad or regular terminators using the box set (ordered).

HQ:
Belial with TH & SS: 190 pts. (Makes terminators troops, precision deep striking)
DW Terminators w/ assault cannon and chainfist: 245 pts. (came with DV box, will have ability to adjust from Terminator Command Box I just ordered)
DW Knights with relic: 245 pts. (can either do these, command, or regular)
Tactical Squad (10) w/ Vet Sergeant, melta bomb, plasma gun/cannon: 185 pts. (came with DV box)
Ravenwing w/ Vet Sergeant (3) and attack bike (1), melta bomb, Plasma gun: 137 pts. (adding attack bike for some meat, but interested in homing beacon for deep strikes)
Total of 1,002 pts.

Thanks!

I didn't play DA for very long but I think the general consensus is to not take Deathwing Knights. Not only can they not be troops and so can't score but tac termies and assault termies are better investments. If the termies are charging out of a land raider, it's better to have assault termies for hammers and claws. If they're deepstriking, it's better to have tacticals with a CML for twin linked split firing goodness thanks to the Deathwing Assault special rule.

Yes, but DWK have some unique propertys and are quite good if you go against CSM (their weapons are AP3 then). There's nothing like DWK's charging something with their smitemode active... If you add some RW Grenades/Bombs it becomes pretty nifty..
But yes, them not being troops in a already low model count army is a big setback.

One thing though: Never take plasma guns on a bike. The pointcost is the same as a Black Knight, which are insanely more efficient. Take a Melta instead.

In general you will find that playing anything "green" isn't worth it in the long run. DA Greenwing is a bad Space Marine version without the nifty tools.

Very helpful information. I may look to assemble the DW differently than DWK based on your feedback. I'll also look to get rid of the plasma gun on the RW squad (it came with the box but I haven't glued anything). I appreciate the feedback.
