GW is scared of girls. Why do you think they have so much trouble sculpting attractive female models? Because girls have cooties and the staff at GW don't like looking at them for too long because it makes them feel funny in their naughty place.

Sideshow Collectibles did a bunch of these in the early 2000s. I've got the Crimson Fist one sitting on my shelf. They're noticeably just 3-ups of the at the time current Space Marine plastic kit. They are licensed by GW and legit. The paintjobs are generally pretty mediocre and I'm tempted to repaint mine since I know I can do a far better job.

How much did they cost back then?

And I'm guessing they are incredibly hard to find today and have a cost going into the three digit numbers?

IIRC they sold new for around US$30. Looking at sold listings on eBay, they appear to generally go for somewhere around $100-$150, depending on the specific model... some of the later sets were a little more scarce, and a little more varied (the first couple of sets were mostly just the same posed marine in different Chapter colours) so go for a little more.

I love the ultramarine Sgt with the hazard stripe chainsword.
