Hello everyone, with the release of the "Dataslate Tyranic Veterans" It has perked my interest in potentially running a list of these guys using the custom formation found within it. Basically the rules of the formation "Saint Tylus Battle Force" are as follows:

-Have to take Chaplin Cassius.
-x1 Squad of Tyranic Veterans minimum and the cannot take a Drop Pod as dedicated transports. Have Hellfire Rounds only.
-0-6 Stormtalons that can start on the table first turn but have to be hovering, also have infiltrate.
-Fill the rest of the army with units from Codex: Space Marines.

Now with the release of the Tyranids and the fact I love the idea of flyer heavy armies (I play Elysians currently) I have compiled a list based on this Data Slate which as far as I know, is a playable add on to the Codex exactly like a supplement. Now this is my first attempt at this list so please feel free to critique and voice your thoughts, thanks for posting!

I think it"s a viable list. Ensure any events you want to take it to allow Dataslates of course.

Rule #1 is Look Cool.

Why would I have to ask for permission? Are not the Data Slates basically supplements to the original Codex meaning I can take them regardless?

A lot of dataslates break the fundamental rules of the game and that's why some tournaments aren't allowing them. This one for example allows you to start 6 Talons on the board.

Personally if i was playing in a 1999+1 (single FOC) GT and played against this list with the flyers deployed on the board I would be more than a little peeved. Not because the list is overpowered or anything, but it breaks the game on a fundamental level.

Hover or not they are on the board turn 1 instead of rolling for them to enter from reserve. If you go first turn they just zoom (i do not have the slate, unless there is a rule attached to them that they must hover throughout turn 1 you can just zoom them the same way an FMC swoops after being deployed).

Other slates let you add formations such as the new nid formations that otherwise would be impossible under the FOC.. at 1850 I can take my usual FOC slots plus throw in Deathleaper and 1-5 lictors.. the problem with DL and lictors are that they take slots away from flyrants, zoes, venomthropes, HG etc.

Without the FOC restricting them I can drop the DL and Lictors in to guide mawlocs while still fielding a full compliment of Zoes and Venomthropes on the table and still have 2 Flyrants. Not to mention the Lictors in the formations can infiltrate within 6" of an enemy.. again it breaks the basic rules.

As far as your list goes though, it looks solid. Great for a narrative/campaign game against a Nid army. I am in the anti-dataslate camp for tournaments though.
